ST. PAUL, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul head baseball coach
Neil Lerner has announced five additions to the program beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.
Joining the program are
Robbie Babcock (Stillwater, Minn. / St. Croix Academy),
Brandon Lunneborg (Eagan, Minn. / HS),
Jake Musgjerd (Excelsior, Minn. / Minnetonka HS),
Calvin Roth (Stevens Point, Wis. / HS) and
Tanner Wylie (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Champlin Park HS).
"We are fired up to add these five student-athletes to our Golden Bear baseball family," said Coach Lerner. He continued, "After adding 11 freshmen to our team for 2026, our goal was to add a smaller group to the program this recruiting cycle that addressed some specific needs for our team, and we feel we have done just that. Our incoming position players have the potential to develop into middle-of-the-order guys for us, and their ability to play multiple positions allows us some great flexibility with their development. Our pitchers have huge upside and will immediately compete for innings as freshmen. Overall, we could not be happier with the group we are bringing in."
Robbie Babcock (RHP, 6-4, 190, R/R, Stillwater, Minn. / St. Croix Academy)
St. Croix Academy:
A two-time All-Skyline Conference selection and an All-Section performer for the Lions … named the program's Rookie of the Year … as a junior, posted an 8-2 record with a 1.28 ERA in 54.2 innings … posted a staggering 100-18 K-BB ratio in 54.2 innings, allowing 35 hits for a 1.01 WHIP.
Personal:
Interested in a finance major at CSP … has one older sister … his mother was a track & field athlete at Gustavus, setting multiple records for the program.
Assistant coach Derek Dahlke on Babcock: "We got the opportunity to see Robbie pitch during the summer circuit with his time with Blizzard baseball and right away we were impressed with the projectable frame that he has and the way his arm works and his pitchability. He had a really successful high school season and I think he is just scratching the surface of his potential! We can't wait to see the strides Robbie makes when he gets on campus and gets to work in the weight room with our training staff. Robbie has the chance to come in and compete for a role on our pitching staff right away!"
Brandon Lunneborg (C/1B, 6-0, 215, R/R, Eagan, Minn. / Eagan HS)
Eagan High School:
A two-sport athlete for the Wildcats, earning five letters in baseball and two in hockey … a two-time All-State, All-Section and All-South Suburban Conference selection heading into senior year … posted a .386/.537/.729 triple-slash (27-70) with a 1.265 OPS … produced nine doubles and five home runs for 14 extra-base hits among his 27 hits … added 23 RBIs and eight runs for the Wildcats … as a backstop, allowed just four passed balls in 156 innings behind the plate … helped Eagan to section runner-up finish as a sophomore in 2024 and a consolation runner-up finish in 2025.
Personal:
Has listed exercise science as an area of study at Concordia … the oldest of three, with two younger sisters.
Coach Lerner on Lunneborg: "We have had the opportunity to see Brandon play many times over the last few years as we were recruiting other Eagan players, three of whom are currently on our team. As we watched, it was immediately apparent how skilled a baseball player Brandon is. He showed the ability to change games with his elite power and ability to drive the ball to all fields. More impressive is the high level of leadership that Brandon demonstrates, which is immediately noticeable to all who observe him. Finally, Brandon also provides flexibility for us, as he is not only a skilled catcher but also has spent many innings at first base. We think he could step in and be a middle-of-the-order presence for us for many years to come."
Jake Musgjerd (RHP/IF, 6-1, 187, L/R, Excelsior, Minn. / Minnetonka HS)
Minnetonka High School:
An All-Section and All-Lake Conference selection for the Skippers … captured the batting and slugging titles … hit .364/.431/.591 (32-88) with nine doubles, a triple, three home runs, 24 RBIs and 12 runs scored … added a 5-2 record as a pitcher with a 1.46 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 24 innings … helped the Skippers to a pair of section titles, an MSHSL runner-up finish and a fifth-place finish at state, producing records of 19-8 and 17-10 the previous two seasons.
Personal:
Has not indicated a field of study interest at CSP … has two older brothers … his older brother, Daniel, is a member of the CSP baseball team along with his best friend, Gus Berger … his father played college baseball at St. John's.
Coach Lerner on Musgjerd: "Jake is a player we have seen play many times over the last few years, and it was a major thrill for us when he committed and joined his brother Daniel as a member of our baseball family. Jake is a dynamic player who possesses a skillset that should lead to immediate success at our level. He is a true two-way player, one who we think will immediately have a large role both on the mound and in the infield for us. He has that pretty left-handed swing and the ability to hit for both a high average and with power. On the mound, he was used as a high-leverage reliever in the Minnetonka High School program and seemed to thrive when pitching in big situations. We see big things in the future for Jake as a Golden Bear baseball player."
Calvin Roth (MIF, 6-0, 182, R/R, Stevens Point, Wis. / Stevens Point Area HS)
Stevens Point Area High School:
A two-sport athlete for the Panthers, competing in baseball and football … an All-State baseball performer, also served as team captain … as a junior, hit .347/.495/.485 with two home runs and only five strikeouts … helped the Panthers to a 2024 Wisconsin Valley Conference championship and finished 25-1, reaching the section finals … helped the team reach state in 2023 … an All-Wisconsin Valley Conference football performer, as well.
Personal:
Will pursue a degree in business at Concordia and aspires to become a business owner … the oldest of three with two younger brothers.
Coach Lerner on Roth: "Calvin came to us late in the recruiting process as we were looking for an athletic middle infielder with versatility, and he clearly fits that bill. His former club ball coach,
Jaden Werner who was our starting shortstop for years, highly recommended him, and as we learned more about him, we were very impressed. Calvin has consistently hit in the middle of the order for both his high school and club teams over the past several years, possessing both power and the ability to hit for a high average. His speed and athleticism make him a weapon on the basepaths and his versatility will allow us to use him both in the infield and potentially in the outfield. Calvin will provide great depth to our program and should immediately compete for playing time as a freshman."
Tanner Wylie (RHP, 6-3, 175, L/R, Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Champlin Park HS)
Champlin Park High School:
A two-sport athlete for the Rebels, competing in baseball and hockey … as a junior, earned All-Northwest Suburban Conference, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.77 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 35.1 innings … helped the team to a 12-9 record as a sophomore and 17-9-1 as a junior including a section title and third-place finish at MSHSL State Tournament … earned All-Northwest Suburban Conference Honorable Mention honors in hockey.
Personal:
Will pursue a business major with a minor in finance at Concordia.
Coach Lerner on Wylie: "We got to see Tanner pitch during his junior season of high school and really liked what we saw and are excited about his potential to grow into a very successful college pitcher. He is a very good athlete with great size. With some time in the weight room and under the guidance of Coach Dahlke, we believe he will gain significant velocity very quickly in his college career. During our recruiting process, we heard nothing but great things about Tanner as a person and how hard he is willing to work to be successful. He will add depth to our pitching staff with the opportunity to get innings on the mound early in his career."
