Concordia offense hits.336 while limiting WSC to .039 in statement win

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 11 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (11-3, 7-0 NSIC) secured a statement Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory on CSP's homecoming Saturday, sweeping No. 9 Wayne State (13-3, 6-1 NSIC) by scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-12 at the Gangelhoff Center.

Saturday's matchup marked the 58th all-time meeting between the Golden Bears and Wildcats, with Concordia improving its advantage in the series to 39-19. The Bears also improved to 21-11 against Wayne State in matches at the Gangelhoff Center and have now won three straight over the Wildcats. In five matches against ranked opponents this season, the Golden Bears are now 4-1 with wins over No. 2 Angelo State, No. 5 West Texas A&M, No. 15 Northern State, and No. 9 Wayne State and a loss to No. 7 Ferris State.

Concordia was in control from the first serve, dominating statistically across every category. The Bears racked up 46 kills with just eight errors on 113 total attacks for a strong .336 hitting percentage, while holding the Wildcats to 29 kills and a .039 mark offensively. CSP's defense set the tone, collecting 69 digs compared to Wayne State's 47, while also out-blocking the visitors 8-2 at the net.

After trading the opening few points, Concordia exploded midway through the first set with an extended 10-0 run on the serve of freshman Josie Tingelhoff to turn a slim 9-8 edge into a commanding 20-9 lead. The Bears never looked back from there, making an early statement with a 25-14 first-set win. CSP hit .273 in the opening set with 12 kills to just three errors, while Wayne State managed only seven kills and hit -.122 as a team.

The Wildcats looked more competitive in the second set, as they held an early 9-7 edge. Concordia came alive at that point, putting together a 10-2 run to take a 17-11 lead. The Wildcats managed to pull within three points on four separate occasions after that, but that proved to be all they could do as CSP hung on for the 25-21 win. The Bears improved to a .302 hitting percentage in the frame with 16 kills on 43 attacks, while Wayne State hit .152. The duo of Kelsey Cooper and Kaelyn Snoozy combined for seven kills in the set, helping keep the Wildcats on their heels.

Concordia came out firing in the third, racing to an early 8-2 advantage behind four kills from sophomore Makenna Nold. The Golden Bear advantage continued to balloon throughout the remainder of the set, culminating in a commanding 25-12 win to complete the sweep. CSP was nearly flawless offensively in the final set, producing 18 kills on .432 hitting, while limiting Wayne State to just eight kills and a .075 hitting clip.

Nold once again led the way for the Golden Bears, logging her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kills, 11 digs, and four block assists for a match-high 15 points. Sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Cooper was dominant at the net, registering eight kills without an error for a .571 hitting percentage along with a match-leading seven total blocks. Freshman Kaelyn Snoozy added nine kills, two digs, and a block, while junior Mehlayna Straub chipped in seven kills on .375 hitting.
