Golden Bears drop road match to Beavers

CSP soccer will look to bounce back on Sunday

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's soccer team (8-3-3, 5-3-3 NSIC) dropped their road match 1-0 against the Beavers of Bemidji State (9-2-3, 7-1-3 NSIC) on a cold Friday night at Chet Anderson Stadium.

In the first half, both teams found themselves taking corner kick opportunities early. The Beavers would rifle off three kicks before losing possession to the Golden Bears. Four quick opportunities for CSP would not be enough to create a scoring opportunity.

Bemidji would go on to hold three more corner kick opportunities and seven shots but all opportunities would be shot down by a decisive Concordia defense.

In the second half, both teams would create equal chances, each taking two corner kicks and tallying two shots. With 20-minutes of play left on the board, it would be the Beavers who would capitalize first. Dayna Stocke would score the eventual game-winner after a CSP corner kick turned the ball over and the BSU offense would march down the field.

The Golden Bears struggled to find their offensive rhythm, recording just one final shot to suffer their third loss of the season. CSP had trouble generating consistent pressure and scuppered their offensive opportunities.

Bemidji held the final shot advantage 9-3 while forcing Concordia to make six saves.

Junior goalkeeper Sydney Potter got her 11th start of the season in net, where she made six saves to bring her season total to 33.

Leading the CSP defense was Belle Abruzzo, Clare Snapko and Maddison Balashaitis who each played a full 90-minute game on the pitch.

Sophia Haase, Brooke Nelson and Stella Nielsen held down the midfield, each having a full game outing.

Just three players notched a shot in the loss including, Snapko, Jada Cannady and Nicole Moore to mark a season-low.

The Golden Bears will return to action on Sunday to face the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth in their final road game of the regular-season. Kick-off will take place at 12 p.m. from James S. Malosky Stadium.
