GOLDEN, Colo. - The No. 5 Concordia- St. Paul volleyball team (3-1) closed out the Oredigger Classic against Gannon (Pa.) (1-3) on Saturday evening. The Golden Bears won 3-1 to close out the weekend in Colorado.
In the first set versus the Golden Knights, the Golden Bears were able to stay one step ahead throughout the entirety earning them a set one win, 25-21. Makenna Nold had an impressive seven kills, Teagan Starkey with 17 assists, Cassie Sieling with eight digs and Claudia Stahlke with three kills.Â
The Golden Bears momentum carried into set two. They were able to take a 25-16 win led by Nold and Sophia Andersen each with nine kills, Sieling with 4 digs and Starkey with an impressive 13 assists.Â
Up 2-0, the Navy and Gold got caught in a close set three to a Golden Knights team that wasn't going away without a fight. Gannon was able to stay one step ahead of the Golden Bears and take the set 25-20.Â
After a valid attempt to keep up with the Golden Bears by the Golden Knights in set four, Concordia decided enough was enough and was able to go on a five-point run to end the set 25-18 and win the match.Â
Leading the team was Starkey with 56 assists and Sieling with a season-high 21 digs. Concordia's trio of Claudia Stahlke, Emma Schmidt and Teagan Starkey garnered Oredigger Classic All-Tournament team honors.
CSP will return to action on Friday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. to face No.14 Lewis (Ill.) in the first of four matches in the Colorado Premier Challenge.
