CSP punches its ticket to the Gold Bracket with the win

DENVER, Colo. - The fifth-ranked Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (5-1) continued play at the Colorado Premier Challenge on Friday evening, sweeping Seattle Pacific (0-6) (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) in a competitive match at the Regis Fieldhouse on the campus of Regis University.

With six ties and three lead changes in the opening set, the Golden Bears found themselves in a 19-19 tie. A run of four consecutive points following that gave CSP enough breathing room to escape with a 25-23 win. Emma Schmidt led the Bears with five kills in the set while setter Teagan Starkey tallied 12 set assists and seven digs.

The Golden Bears struggled to find momentum early in set two as the Falcons worked out to a 19-15 advantage. CSP went on to claim the next five points, including two kills by Ellie Sieling, to take a 20-19 lead. Tied at 22 each shortly after, Concordia closed with three consecutive points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In a match point situation with Concordia leading 24-19 in the third, the Falcons gave the Bears a scare with three straight points to pull within two at 24-22. CSP managed to slam the door on a kill from Claudia Stahlke to complete the sweep.

Starkey notched her first double-double of the season, finishing with 44 set assists and a team-leading 13 digs. Schmidt neared a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
