Golden Bears and Lopers play to a 0-0 draw

CSP will return to action Sunday at 11 a.m. to face New Mexico Highlands

KEARNEY, NE. -  The No. 23 Concordia- St. Paul soccer team (1-0-2) opened up its weekend in Nebraska with a 0-0 draw at Nebraska Kearney (2-0-1) on Friday evening at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field. 

Following the draw, Head Coach Steve Bellis stated, "A great battle from both sides - we canceled each other out a little."

Bellis added, "We created enough chances to win the game in the second half and although a little bit disappointed we stay undefeated." 

Senior Sammy Ponsonby led the team with four shots including two on goal. Following close behind her was sophomore Sophia Haase with two shots on goal. 

This was an even-strength match-up from start to finish with both teams keeping in check with the other.  

In the first half, the Golden Bears edged out the Lopers shots 6-2, but the Lopers came right back in the second and led shots 5-3. UNK was able to save four shots on goal by CSP to keep scoring off the table in both halves. 

Sophomore Syndey Potter got her first career start in the net for Concordia and recorded three saves on the night for a career game-high. 

Six Golden Bears found themselves playing a complete game tonight including, Potter, Haase, Clare Snapko, Haley Rudebusch, Belle Abruzzo, McKayla Stockness

The Golden Bears return to action on Sunday wrapping-up non-conference play. They are set to play the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands at 11 a.m. This game will also be played at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field in Kearney, Nebraska.
