Concordia scored first in a strong early part of the playoff game, as Fisher netted one on a free position shot just over three minutes into the game. CSP played with the lead for most of the first quarter when NMU finally tied the game with just over three and a half minutes to play in the quarter, taking the lead for good 38 seconds later in what would be a closely played 3-1 first quarter.
Fisher scored again early in the second quarter, making it a 1-goal margin less than a minute and a half into the quarter, with CSP playing down just one goal for the next three-plus minutes when Minnie Bittell scored her first of five goals to start a 3-0 NMU spurt for a 6-2 lead midway through the second quarter.
Jungwirth found Monson to make it 6-3 with just over five minutes to play before halftime, but Bittell struck again for a 7-3 halftime lead, and added another goal to open the scoring in the third quarter for an 8-3 edge.
Smith would find Fisher to keep CSP within striking distance at 8-4 with 10:31 to play in the third quarter before another 3-0 run by the Wildcats made it 11-4.
Smith found Fisher again just before the end of the third quarter with three seconds left, and Monson scored to start the scoring a minute and a half into the fourth frame to give CSP late life, trailing 11-6 with plenty of time remaining.
Northern Michigan would end the game on a 4-0 run, though, including two goals in the next two minutes, and two more in the final two minutes.
Josie Lakosky joined Bittell with a 5-goal game for NMU, with Bittell also adding four assists.
