ROSEVILLE, Minn. - Annalise Scamehorn went 6-9 hitting to lead the Golden Bears (28-6, 10-0 NSIC) to a 3-1 and 12-11 pair of wins against St. Cloud State (22-14, 5-5 NSIC) on Friday. The senior tallied four hits in the second game including a walk-off single in the 10th inning to secure the CSP victory.Â
The Golden Bears trailed 11-9 in the 10th inning against the Huskies. Freshman Bryleigh Dana hit an RBI single and junior Alexus Houston hit an RBI double before Scamehorn brought in the final run with a hit down the right-field line.Â
Scamehorn tallied one double on the day and brought in two RBIs. After going hitless in game one, Houston put up three hits with two RBIs. Junior Avery Johnson finished with a team-high three RBIs combined between both contests. Freshman Alexis Monty tallied three hits total with two RBIs in game one.Â
Junior Erica McCullough picked up another 2-0 day pitching a combined 12.1 innings and throwing 234 total pitches. The lefty tallied 10 strikeouts on the day, seven of which came in the first game. Freshman Makayla Wigern pitched 4.2 innings in game two tallying a strikeout.Â
The Golden Bears outhit the Huskies 27-16 on the day. St. Cloud State hit three home runs, all of which came in the second game. Concordia-St. Paul hit 11 doubles combined between both games.
Concordia-St. Paul remains the lone team with an undefeated conference record in the NSIC. Augustana won both games of its doubleheader today to tally an 11-1 NSIC record.Â
CSP is back in action on Saturday against Minnesota Duluth (25-10, 6-4 NSIC) at Reynolds Field at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. The Bulldogs come in on a six-game winning streak after sweeping Southwest Minnesota State on Friday. First pitches are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Game One
Johnson started the scoring with an RBI double down the left-field line which was set up by a pair of singles from Scamehorn and shortstop Sydney Pelzer. St. Cloud State responded in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Bethany Weiss.Â
Pelzer doubled to start the fourth inning and Johnson reached on a fielder's choice where the Huskies were unable to get Pelzer out. Monty brought both of them in with a 2RBI double. This brought her total on the season up to 29 RBIs and gave the Golden Bears a 3-1 advantage.Â
McCullough held the Huskies scoreless the rest of the way throwing two strikeouts and only allowing two runners to get on base. She finished the game with seven strikeouts which tied her second-most of the season. This is the seventh time McCullough has thrown five or more strikeouts in a game.Â
The junior lefty tallied her 16th win of the season pitching all seven innings. She threw 115 total pitches in the contests giving up five hits and one earned run. McCullough only walked one batter on the day.Â
The Golden Bears tallied nine hits as a team. Neither team had an error in the contest. Concordia left eight runners on base compared to five for the Huskies, most of which came in the second inning when CSP left the bases loaded.
Game Two
Wigern got St. Cloud State's first nine batters out, but after four and a half scoreless innings the game exploded. The bottom of the fourth inning started with back-to-back singles by Pelzer and Scamehorn along with a sacrifice bunt by Johnson. Junior first baseman Rachel Novak hit a sacrifice fly to bring Pelzer home for the first run of the game.Â
The Huskies tied the game with a run of their own in the fifth inning. After a Heislen single in the bottom of the fifth, Sharum and Houston hit back-to-back doubles to give Concordia a 3-1 lead. Scamehorn then hit an RBI single, giving the Golden Bears a 4-1 advantage after five.Â
St. Cloud State fought back to take its first lead of the day at 5-4 after a three-run home run by Brooke Holmes and an RBI single by Lydia Krueger. Concordia-St. Paul responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.Â
After a Monty double, sophomore Riley Rosenthal brought her in to tie the game at 5-5. Junior catcher Danni Sharum hit the third double of the inning, bringing in the sixth run. Pelzer bunted for a single and Johnson hit the fourth double of the inning to bring in the next three runs and lead 9-5.Â
The Huskies did not fold as Maggie Fitzgerald hit a three-run homer to cut the lead to 9-8. Krueger hit another RBI single, tying the game at 9-9. McCullough ended the inning with a strikeout leaving two runners on base.Â
Both teams remained scoreless until the 10th inning when a runner was put on second base to start. The Huskies brought in their 10th run of the game after back-to-back bunts. Junior Reese Holzhueter then hit a solo home run to lead 11-9.Â
With Rosenthal placed on second base to start the bottom of the 10th, Heislen singled in between third base and shortstop, bringing Rosenthal to third base. Dana then hit a single in the same exact spot to cut the lead to 11-10.Â
Houston then hit an RBI double to the left-center wall, tying the game. Scamehorn walked off the victory with an RBI single down the right field line to win the game, 12-11.Â
Scamehorn led the Golden Bears with four hits in six at-bats. Heislen tallied two hits and scored three times. Houston put up three hits with two RBIs. Pelzer and Sharum tallied two hits each.Â
McCullough earned her 17th victory of the season, tying her for 11th in a single season in program history. She pitched 5.1 innings giving up nine earned runs on 10 hits. She threw three strikeouts in 119 pitches. Wigern pitched 4.2 innings giving up one hit and three walks while throwing one strikeout.Â
The Golden Bears outhit St. Cloud State 18-11 and both teams had an error. CSP left 11 runners on base compared to seven for the Huskies. Concordia tallied eight total doubles in the contest as a team.
