Segna’s big game propels Golden Bears to 14-0 run-rule victory over Bemidji State

CSP collected 15 hits with Thimsen leading the way with four

BEMIDJI, Minn. - Ian Segna's complete game shutout and strong offensive outing at the plate lifted the Golden Bears (24-20, 16-19 NSIC) to the 14-0 run-rule victory over the Bemidji State Beavers (1-44, 0-35 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at BSU Field.

Concordia's impressive head-to-head streak against the Beavers extended to 13 with today's win. They now hold a 52-22 all-time record against Bemidji dating back to April of 2000.

The Golden Bears collected 15 hits as a team throughout the seven innings of action. Nick Thimsen led the way offensively with his second straight four-hit outing at the plate. In addition, the senior drove in two runners, scored a pair of runs and collected his 20th walk of the season. Kal Brohmer also shined with a team-leading three RBIs, while Bennett McCollow added his seventh three-hit game of the season.

Freshman Ian Segna (5-1) collected his fifth win of the season on the bump for the Golden Bears. The Lakeville, Minnesota native collected his first career complete game shutout in Navy and Gold after battling for 7.0 innings with five strikeouts and only one walked batter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team was unable to find the scoring column in the early innings, until the Golden Bears changed the narrative with a trio of runs in the third. Following a double from Thimsen, Jaden Werner lifted an 0-2 count to right center to drive in the first run of the ballgame. Later in the inning, Brohmer extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-RBI single to left field.

Following an unearned run scored by Bryce Nelson in the fifth, CSP exploded with 10 runs on seven hits in the seventh inning. They opened the inning with three straight hits, including a double from McCollow that put runners in scoring position. Brohmer secured his first triple of the season to drive in the fourth run of the inning before scoring himself on the next play. CSP capped off the inning with an RBI walk from Koby McBroome, a two-RBI single from McCollow, an RBI single from Thimsen and a Brayden Roybal advancement run during a wild pitch to take a commanding 14-0 lead.

Segna closed the game strong on the mound to secure the Golden Bears' first shutout victory of the season by retiring six of the last seven batters in the BSU lineup to end the game early via a 14-0 run-rule victory.
