Golden Bears' comeback bid falls short against Walsh

CSP will return to action tomorrow evening against Malone (Ohio) at 5:00 p.m. CT

TUCSON, Ariz. - Concordia-St. Paul baseball's (8-2) winning streak ended as they fell to Walsh (Ohio), 10-7, on Sunday afternoon at the Kino Sports Complex.

The Golden Bears will look to bounce back against Malone (Ohio) tomorrow evening. The first pitch against the Pioneers is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT at the Kino Sports Complex Field #5.

Concordia did not see much of a lack of offense in today's matchup against the Cavaliers, as they out-hit them, 14-9. Leading the way from the plate was junior Noah Juliar, who went 3-4 with a double and four RBIs. Nick Thimsen also had an impressive outing at the plate with a pair of hits and three runs scored for the Navy and Gold.

On the mound, the decision was given to Reece Piontek (0-1) who made the start and had three strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work. Jack Nicklaus made an impact from the bullpen with four complete innings and a pair of strikeouts, while Andrew Boeser collected three strikeouts of his own.

The early innings saw a back-and-forth between the Bears' and Cavaliers, but a five-run fourth inning by Walsh was ultimately the deciding factor, as they held on to claim the 10-7 victory.

CSP shot out of a cannon in the opening innings of action. With the bases loaded, Juliar used an RBI single through the left side to score Brayden Roybal and Bennett McCollow for the first two runs in the opening inning. Later in the first, freshman Kaden Johnson recorded his first career hit that drove in Thimsen to give CSP the 3-0 advantage.

In the top of the third, Juliar recorded an RBI to tie the game back up at four runs apiece. However, the Golden Bears' momentum was quickly eliminated after the Cavaliers recorded five runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to six runs, which was the most by either team.

Concordia attempted a late rally with a sacrifice fly from Juliar in the fifth, an RBI double by Jaden Werner in the seventh and an RBI single with the bases loaded by McCollow in the eighth, but Walsh held on to spoil the comeback bid.
