MINOT, N.D. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (19-7, 15-6 NSIC) held Minot State (9-20, 6-14 NSIC) to 18-60 (30%) from the field and 0-10 from behind the arc to get a 55-41 win on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears were led by junior center Lindsey Becher with 16 points and nine rebounds in her seventh straight game scoring double digits.Â
After Minot State made the opening basket of the game, the Golden Bears went on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes of play. Becher scored the first four points and redshirt freshman forward Lauren Wilson hit back-to-back 3-pointers. CSP led 17-10 after the opening quarter.Â
Minot State scored the opening point of the second quarter, but was then held scoreless for 6:15. The Golden Bears went on a 9-0 run in that timeframe to take a 26-11 lead. Concordia was led by sophomore guard Lauren Feddema in the second quarter making two 3-pointers. Minot State rallied to cut the lead to 31-19 at the half.Â
The third quarter was the best of the day for the Beavers. Minot State got the lead down to the lowest of the game at 35-29, but CSP kept answering all of Minot's baskets from that point to lead 41-33 heading into the fourth quarter.Â
The Golden Bears maintained the lead in the fourth quarter eventually extending it to 10 points midway through. Concordia-St. Paul held Minot State scoreless for 4:39 until Minot State hit its last shot with seven seconds left. In that time, CSP went on a 6-0 run and held the Beavers to 0-6 shooting from the field late in the game.Â
Feddema finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Wilson scored eight points with six rebounds and a team-high two steals. Wilson and Feddema were the only players to make shots from behind the arc in the game.
Junior forward Megan Gamble grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds which tied her season-high. She also added eight points. Senior guard Ally Gietzel finished with six points and six rebounds. Junior guard Mikayla Kanenwisher dished out a team-high four assists adding five points to her totals.Â
Concordia-St. Paul shot 20-58 (34.5%) from the field and 4-15 (25.7%) from behind the 3-point line. The Golden Bears shot 11-12 from the free throw line compared to 5-10 from Minot State.Â
This was the sixth time this season the Golden Bears have held an opponent to less than 50 points. Minot State is the second team to not make a 3-pointer against the Golden Bears this season as Sioux Falls didn't make a shot from behind the arc against CSP on Dec. 9.Â
Even though CSP only created seven turnovers, the Golden Bears utilized those opportunities well outscoring Minot State 11-4 off of turnovers. CSP outscored Minot 28-22 in the paint and 12-7 on second-chance points. Concordia led for 38:04 in the contest.Â
Minot State was led by Jaime Skeggs, Sydney Gustavsson and Maya Aguilar all scoring eight points. Gustavsson led the Beavers in rebounds with seven. Sophomore guard Vilborg Jonsdottir led Minot State with five assists.Â
Concordia-St. Paul remains tied for third place in the convoluted NSIC race for a top-four team first-round bye. CSP is tied with St. Cloud State, UMary and Southwest Minnesota State, all of which have six conference losses. All three of those teams play two games next weekend, whereas the Golden Bears only have one game left to play.Â
CSP's lone game next week is on Saturday, Feb. 24 against St. Cloud State (17-7, 14-6 NSIC). It will be Senior Night for the Golden Bears in the last home contest of the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the Gangelhoff Center.
