ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Concordia- St. Paul soccer team (4-2-3) played to a competitive 0-0 draw against the Huskies of St. Cloud State (6-2-1) on Friday evening at Husky Stadium.
Following the draw, head coach Steve Bellis stated, "A very close and exciting game tonight versus quality NSIC opposition."
Bellis added, "Small margins prevented the road win for us. We know we can be more clinical with our chances in front of the goal and hope to see that on Sunday."
The defense was the star of the show in today's game holding the Huskies to just six total shots with only one shot coming on goal.
Brittany Bordson, Belle Abruzzo, Clare Snapko and Morgan Bilczewski all played a full 90-minute game on the pitch.
Sophomore Syndey Potter got her fourth start of the season in the net, recording one save to bring her season total to eight.
In the first half, the Golden Bears outshot the Huskies 6-3, keeping the SCSU defense on their toes.
Coming out of halftime, CSP was playing with a strong edge, getting off three back-to-back shots but unfortunately not able to get past a strong SCSU goalie and defense. Concordia held the second half shot advantage 4-3 leading to a total game advantage of 10-6.
Leading the Golden Bear offense was senior Sammy Ponsonby who had two shots with one on goal. Jade Cannady and Amaya O'Hearn each with two shots as well.
The Golden Bears will finish out the weekend of play on Sunday where they will take on the Bulldogs of Minnesota- Duluth at James S. Malosky Stadium set for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
