Golden Bears defeat Bemidji State allowing lowest point total since 1998

Feddema scores a career-high 12 points in CSP’s 74-30 win over Bemidji State

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (13-5, 9-4 NSIC) returned home on Friday night and picked up a 74-30 victory over Bemidji State (3-14, 0-13 NSIC). This was the lowest point total the Golden Bears have given up since Dec. 8, 1998, in an 81-26 win over Pillsbury. 

Sophomore guard Lauren Feddema tallied a season-high 12 points, shooting 3-4 on 3-pointers. She tallied two steals and two assists as well. Junior Lindsey Becher finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Becher recorded the 200th block of her career in the second quarter.

Senior guard Ally Gietzel was honored before the game for scoring her 1,000th career point earlier in the season against St. Cloud State on Jan. 10. She finished with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists. She tied her career-high in steals with four and played a CSP career-low 20:21 in the game. 

Redshirt freshman forward Emma Mommsen finished with a career-high nine points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard Ashley Schuelke tallied a career-high nine points and three assists. 

Junior guard Mikayla Kanenwisher finished with a team-high seven assists. Redshirt freshman Lauren Wilson and junior Megan Gamble scored eight points each. 

The Golden Bears started the game on an 18-2 run, which started with a 7-0 run. Gamble scored the first five points for CSP, followed by a steal from Dengerud which ended with a Gietzel layup. 

After Bemidji scored, Becher scored six points along with a 3-pointer by Wilson to extend the lead to 16-2 when the Beavers took their first timeout of the game. The first quarter ended with CSP leading 21-4 shooting 8-20 and holding the Beavers to 1-15 from the field. 

Both teams combined to shoot 8-28 in the second quarter. Gietzel led the Golden Bears with four points in the stagnant 10 minutes. Feddema ended the quarter with excitement, making a 3-pointer in the final seconds to give CSP a 33-10 lead at the half. 

The Golden Bears continued to dominate in the third quarter outscoring the Beavers 19-8 shooting 7-12 from the field and holding the Beavers to 3-12. Gietzel was once again the leading scorer in the quarter with four points. 

Many bench players so action in the fourth quarter with Mommsen, Schuelke and Feddema making an impact on the court. Mommsen scored all of her nine points while Schuelke and Feddema tallied six points each in the quarter. The Golden Bears shot 8-17 in the quarter and outscored the Beavers 22-12. 

The 44-point victory is Concordia's largest margin of victory this season and it's the lowest points they've given up all season. The previous lowest amount of points scored this season was 39 points against Southeastern Oklahoma State and Sioux Falls. 

The Golden Bears held Bemidji State to a shooting total of 12-55 (21.8%) from the field. That's the second-lowest shooting percentage CSP has allowed this season with the previous being 18.0% against Southeastern Oklahoma State. 

The Golden Bears outrebounded Bemidji State 47-33 while outscoring them 36-18 in the paint and 22-6 off of turnovers. CSP's bench posted their biggest margin of the season outscoring the Beavers 41-14. 

Bemidji State was led by Alyssa Hill with 10 points. Ashlynne Guenther scored seven points along with a tied team-high of four rebounds. 

The Golden Bears remain tied for fourth place with UMary (13-8, 9-4 NSIC) in conference play. UMary picked up a win over now third-place Southwest Minnesota State (12-7, 10-3 NSIC) by a score of 83-72 on Friday night. 

Concordia-St. Paul is back in action on Saturday in the Gangelhoff Center against Minnesota Crookston (9-10, 6-7 NSIC). The Golden Eagles lost to Minnesota Duluth (11-6, 8-5 NSIC) by a score of 82-59 on Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the Gangelhoff Center.
