SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No.1 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball (10-1, 1-1 NSIC) bounced back with a three-set sweep over the Augustan Vikings (3-6, 0-1 NSIC) at the Hall Sports Forum on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears will return to action next Thursday on the road against the Minnesota State Mavericks. Action from the Taylor Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Concordia volleyball improved to 30-1 over the Vikings with today's victory.
Jasmine Mulvihill led the Golden Bears with a double-double after collecting 14 kills and 12 digs in the contest.
Katie Mattson was just two kills from reaching double figures with her eight kills in the match.
Teagan Starkey continues to impress this season with a match leading 38 assists. Libero
Ellie Sieling led the Golden Bear defense with 13 digs and an assist.
On the opposite side of the court, Lucy Bartee performed well with 31 assists. Kia Kriener led the Augie offensive attack with 15 kills.
In the opening set, the two squads traded the lead five times before the Golden Bears took control at the 15-14 mark and eventually took the set, 25-20. Mulvihill led the CSP attack with four kills, while Starkey added nine assists. Augustana struggled in the opening set with their attack after they committed 10 attacking errors and finished with a .063 team hitting percentage.
Concordia picked right up where they left off to extend their lead after taking the second set, 25-20. CSP was efficient with their hitting as a team with a hitting percentage of .429 in the set. The Golden Bears led by as many as eight on multiple occasions in the set with Mulvihill adding a set best five kills.
Sophia Andersen made an impact in the set with three kills of her own, while Starkey added 13 assists.
CSP controlled the third set to secure the 3-0 sweep. Augustana made things interesting in the early going, even taking a brief lead with a pair of back-to-back kills to go up 4-3. However, an offensive attack led by
Makenna Berger, who finished with six kills, would prevail at the end as Concordia took the set, 25-20.
