Golden Bears lose final two games in St. Cloud

Concordia softabll will look to get back on track Wednesday against Winona State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (19-18, 5-7 NSIC) dropped their final two games of the week at the Husky Dome to St. Cloud State (21-14, 6-4 NSIC). The Golden Bears gave up a seventh inning lead on a two-run home run in game one, before falling 10-3 in game two.

GAME ONE: St. Cloud State 4, Concordia 3
The Golden Bears got on the board in the first inning, taking a short 1-0 lead. Alexus Houston singled to get things started. A Grace Beseman single moved Houston over to third and Jacey Defries brought her home on an RBI groundout.

The Huskies came back in the second inning with two runs of their own. A leadoff double and wild pitch set things up for SCSU with a runner on third and no outs. An error on an infield ground ball brought in St. Cloud State first run and put another runner in scoring position. A sacrifice bunt brought in one more for the Huskies in the inning to give them the lead.

In the third inning the Golden Bears tied things up on a single from Avery Johnson to score Beseman. The run knocked in also extended Johnson's RBI streak to four games. Sydney Pelzer brought another run home in the fifth, on a sacrifice fly that allowed Beseman to tag up and score for the second time in the game.

Concordia starting pitcher Erica McCullough held the SCSU scoreless for four straight innings to hold the CSP one-run lead. In the sixth inning Bears found themselves with runners at second and third on three separate occasions and all three times the defense made plays at the plate.

St. Cloud State finally broke through in the seventh, when DP Jasmin Estrada homered with a runner on first to put the Huskies in front 4-3. It is the second time this season Estrada has played the hero for SCSU against the Golden Bears. In their non-conference doubleheader in March, Estrada walked things off with a three-run home run.

McCullough (6-5) had a solid game outside of the second and seventh, limiting St. Cloud State to two hits over the other five innings and five hits for the game.

GAME TWO: St. Cloud State 10, Concordia 3
The St. Cloud State offense was on fire in game two and got things rolling in the second inning. The Huskies put together three hits to start the inning and scored on an RBI double and a wild pitch to go up 2-0.

Riley Rosenthal picked up an RBI in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly to deep center field to bring in Danni Sharum. It was the fourth RBI of the season for Rosenthal, and the second as many days for the freshman.

SCSU added three more in the fifth and the Golden Bears responded with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Grace Beseman doubled in Sydney Pelzer for the Bears first run of the inning and Danni Sharum singled to bring in Beseman to make the score 5-3 going to the sixth.

The Huskies poured it on in the sixth and seventh with five more runs. SCSU put three on the board to end CSP starter Bryanna Olson's day and two on Kristi Pliz who entered the game in the seventh to close things out.

With the 10-3 win, St. Cloud State moves to one game away from evening up the series between the schools. Concordia currently has a 26-25 advantage all-time against the Huskies.
