WAYNE, Neb. -Concordia-St. Paul baseball (12-15, 8-6 NSIC) dropped a heartbreaker to the St. Cloud State Huskies (17-11, 9-4 NSIC), 8-7, in the series finale at Wayne Ball Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears swung the bats well with 15 hits in the game, which the most they have had since their 17 hit performance earlier this season at the Tucson Invitational in Arizona against Malone (3/4).
Kal Brohmer and
Noah Juliar led the Golden Bears with three hits, an RBI and a run a piece.
Mason Nadolney recorded a pair of RBIs, while Thimsen scored a team-best two runs.
The Golden Bears had four different players see the mound.
Christian Morel (2-3) received the nod as the starter. The junior went five complete innings with three strikeouts and walked only one batter in the no contest decision.
Eric Lundell (2-1) recorded his first loss of the season in relief.
SCSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead, holding the Golden Bears out of the hit column for the opening five innings. CSP rallied off three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 7-5 lead, but the Huskies secured 8-7 victory in walk-off fashion.
Concordia's scoring drought came to an end whenever
Mason Nadolney drove in a Juliar and Thimsen with a two-RBI single to center field in the sixth.
In the next inning, RBI singles from
Kal Brohmer and
Brayden Roybal brought the Golden Bears within a run with two innings remaining.
The Golden Bears captured their first lead of the game with three runs in the ninth inning. With two outs,
Landon Behringer and Brohmer were able to score off a fielding error from the Huskies left fielder, while Juliar drove in Thimsen on the next play to make the score 7-5. However, SCSU answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 8-7 win.
