Concordia falls at #17 Grand Valley State

Golden Bears return to Sea Foam Stadium for home finale next Sunday

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse (6-8, 2-3 GLIAC) dropped its final regular season road game on Friday afternoon, falling 19-5 at #17 Grand Valley State (8-4, 3-0 GLIAC).

The Golden Bears return home next Sunday, April 16 for a noon game against Northern Michigan in the regular season finale, for what will mark CSP's senior day and youth day. For youth day, kids aged 6-12 years old receive admission for just one dollar, with the lacrosse team holding a youth camp immediately following the game against the Wildcats.

Concordia has played five of its six games against GLIAC opposition, holding a 2-3 record with one to play. GVSU moves to 3-0 while Northern Michigan is 2-1 and Davenport is 0-3.

The host Lakers came out strong early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of play including four goals in the first five and a half minutes.

Freshman Susie Monson gave Concordia some first quarter momentum, scoring a pair of goals as CSP put in two of the next three for a 7-2 deficit.

But the Lakers were able to end the first half on a 6-0 scoring run for a 13-2 lead at the break.

Concordia once again scraped its way to some momentum to open the third quarter, as Sara Kaiser scored two of the next three goals followed by a Sydney Smith goal early in the fourth quarter as CSP brought the GVSU lead back to single digits, 14-5 with just under 13 minutes left.

The Lakers would finish the game on their third big run of the day, though, scoring the next five goals to put it away.

Monson also led CSP with three draw controls while Kennedy Bolander added three ground balls. Senior goalie Candace McDole added another double-digit save performance, her ninth, securing 12 saves while facing 41 shots by the potent Laker attack.

Grand Valley State was led by Maddy Champagne's six points on four goals and two assists while Kate DeYoung and Molly Bursinger each scored four goals, as well.
