Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn.- Due to weather conditions, today's scheduled games between CSP baseball and the Winona State Warriors at Barnes Field have been canceled. With the cancelation, Friday's halted contest becomes an official game with CSP claiming a 16-12 victory in six innings.
The Golden Bears will return to action tomorrow for a conference doubleheader against the Upper Iowa Peacocks in Fayette, Iowa. They will conclude the week with a three-game weekend series against the Wayne State Wildcats in Wayne, Nebraska.
GAME 2: CSP 16, WSU 12 (Six Innings)
The high scoring did not stop in game two as the two teams combined for 28 runs before the game was halted due to darkness in the seventh inning. CSP scored in each of the six innings played, including a seven-run fourth inning to secure the 16-12 victory.
Concordia has collected 15 hits in six innings played. Noah Juliar and Brayden Roybal recorded home runs for the Golden Bears, while Jaden Werner and Nick Thimsen lead the team with three hits each. Kal Brohmer reached base successfully on every plate appearance after going 1-1 with three walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Jonah Lewis (3-3) started the bump for CSP in game two. The junior completed five full innings with a strikeout and one walked batter. Matt Sherman and Eric Lundell appeared from the bullpen to combine for an inning of work. Lundell was credited with his fourth save of the season.
The Golden Bears struck first with a pair of runs as Juliar picked up right where he left off in game one with a two-run homer to left field, raising his total to three homers for the afternoon. The sophomore left fielder finished 2-3 from the plate with a trio of runs, two RBIs and a walk.
Roybal had an impressive showing both offensively and defensively. The junior second baseman turned a rare triple play after collecting a line drive and getting the force out at second and third to halt the Warriors' momentum. He added his first home run of the season to right center in the final innings to extend the CSP lead to 16-12.
A big fourth inning from the Golden Bears that saw seven runs on six hits highlighted by a two-RBI double from Thimsen was the ultimate decider in game two. Werner, Justin McGuigan and Bryce Nelson each added RBI singles, while Roybal and McGuigan each had a stolen base.
The Warriors attempted a late rally with a six-run sixth inning to cut the Golden Bears' lead to three, but it was not enough as Concordia hung on to win game two, 16-12.
