CSP baseball's home opener against WSU moved up to Friday

Action will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul baseball (12-15, 8-6 NSIC) will host their first home game of the season against the Winona State Warriors (17-18, 13-7 NSIC) at Barnes Field.
 
First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. with game two following shortly afterwards. Action will conclude on Saturday at noon.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST WSU
The Golden Bears and the Warriors have met 83 times since April 21, 2000, with the Warriors holding a 44-39 series advantage. WSU claimed the first five matchups of the series, including the inaugural series in Winona. CSP's longest winning streak from 2016-2017 saw the Golden Bears outscore the Warriors 52-27. Concordia has scored 424 runs with an average of 5.11 runs a game against Winona.
 
ABOUT THE WARRIORS
Winona State posted a 17-23 (14-12 NSIC) record in the 2022 campaign and was picked to finish sixth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 126 points.
 
The Warriors hold a record of 17-18 (5-12 NSIC) this season and are currently sitting in fourth in NSIC conference standings ahead of the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles.
 
WSU is coming into the matchup on a three-game winning streak after sweeping the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Wednesday at home.
 
After getting off to a rocky start that saw the Warriors lose their first six games of the season, they have been able to bounce back victories in seven of their last 10.
 
The batter to watch for the Warriors is Derek Baumgartner, who has slashed .402/.447./.564 with 47 hits,18 runs and 18 RBIs. The senior catcher leads the team with 17 extra bases that includes 16 doubles and a homerun.
 
For the pitchers, senior Justin Firpo has led the way for the Warriors with a 2-2 record, a 4.82 earned run average and 24 strikeouts. He has allowed 43 hits and 20 earned runs in 37.1 innings pitched.
