ALLENDALE, Mich. - Concordia-St. Paul (4-7, 0-2 GLIAC) dropped a 17-5 conference game on Friday afternoon at #10 Grand Valley State (9-1, 1-0 GLIAC) at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. Concordia remains in Michigan this weekend, heading to Grand Rapids on Sunday to face #23 Davenport for an 11 a.m. (central) league contest.
The Lakers scored the first four goals in the opening 3:45 of play to build an early lead, although Concordia kept it close early as the teams split the next six goals evenly through the 10 minute mark of the second quarter.
A late second quarter goal with 15 seconds to play on a pass from
Maddy Seifert to
Delaney Davidson cut GVSU's lead to 10-4 and appeared to provide momentum to the visiting Golden Bears before the Lakers added a free position goal with just two seconds to play in the half to steal the momentum back.
The late second quarter goal started a 7-0 scoring run for the Lakers, with Seifert putting in her third goal of the game to snap the run with under a minute to play in the contest.
Seifert led Concordia with four points, scoring three goals and adding an assist. She also secured a pair of ground balls.
Davidson's goal was her lone score of the contest, snapping her string of 10-straight multi-goal games.
Hailey Hartlage added CSP's other goal on the day, and produced three ground balls and a pair of draw controls.
Molly Moynihan led Concordia with four draw controls and Davidson's two caused turnovers were a team-high.
Mary Keating and
Sarah Pierson each matched Hartlage's three ground balls as part of a team effort that produced 17 total ground balls.
Candace McDole led the goalie effort with five saves, playing in the first three quarters.
Maddy Huebner went the rest of the way in the cage, limiting the Lakers to three goals while making a save.
The Lakers held a 37-17 advantage in shots including 23-11 on goal with each team making six total saves in the contest. The Lakers had a clear edge on the draw, securing 18 of the game's 25 draw controls while the Golden Bears had the edge defensively, with seven caused turnovers leading to 17 GVSU turnovers, while GVSU only caused three, as CSP limited turnovers to just 14.
The Lakers were led by Molly Bursinger's seven points, scoring five goals with two assists, also securing seven draw controls. Sophie Conroy added five points (3g, 2a) and Maddy Champagne had a game-high eight draw controls and added a pair of goals.
