PITTSBURG, Kan. – Concordia-St. Paul senior Arika Robinson became the program's first ever National Champion as she took home the top spot in the high jump NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on the campus of Pittsburg State on Friday afternoon.

After entering the meet ranked third in the nation in the event, Robinson outlasted her competition as she cleared a school record height of 5'11.5", a full 1.5" further than her previous record, in her third and final attempt to claim the crown. Robinson was one of three to reach the 5'11.5" mark as Asuza Pacific's Chinenye Agina and Queens' Lucy Walliker both fell short at that mark, sealing the title for the St. Paul native.

The three-time NCAA Indoor qualifier earned her second consecutive All-America honors as she was also named First Team All-America for her efforts after being named Second Team All-America last season.

Robinson will have the opportunity to make it an even more memorable weekend tomorrow as she competes in the pentathlon. The first event is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Robinson wasn't the only Golden Bear to compete on Friday as Eben Mundfrom took home 15th in the weight throw while Jakob Tordsen sits just outside an All-America slot in the heptathlon, ranking 13th through four events.

Mundfrom improved his distance in each of his three throws as he moved from 59'7" in the first throw to 59'2.75" before finishing with a mark of 60'6" in his final throw.

After finishing in 16th in the 60 meter dash to start the day, Tordsen rattled off three straight top-10 finishes, ranking ninth in both the long jump and the shot put before racking up a sixth place finish in the high jump. Tordsen tallied 2884 points on day one, putting him just 22 points out of 12th place.

Tordsen is set to resume competition tomorrow at noon as he will complete the final three events.
