Golden Bears fall to Jackrabbits in exhibition play

Kimmons and Sluice both reach double figures on the night

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's basketball team dropped their exhibition opener at South Dakota State by a score of 123-61 on Wednesday night.

In his Golden Bear debut, Antwan Kimmons paced the Golden Bears with 12 points on 5-10 shooting while he also chipped in three assists, two steals and two rebounds.

Kimmons was joined in double figures by Ian Sluice, who knocked down 4-5 from the floor and 2-3 from beyond the arc. John Grigsby matched him from deep as he hit 2-3 from three-point range and 3-6 from the floor to finish with eight points.

Sunday John grabbed a team-high four boards to go along with three assists and two points while Jacob Everson put up seven points and pulled down three rebounds in the loss.

As a team, CSP hit 35.8% (24-67) from the floor and 75.0% (6-8) from the free throw line while picking up 11 steals and turning it over 18 times in the contest.

Concordia kept pace in the early going as they trailed by just five at 12-7 just over six minutes into the game, but an extended 28-5 run over the next 10 minutes put the game out of reach.

The Jackrabbits added to their lead for much of the rest of the contest before the Golden Bears scored the final six points of the night to bring it to the final score of 123-61.

CSP opens up the regular season next weekend as they travel south to take on Newman on Nov. 11 and Rogers State on Nov. 12 with both games being played at Rogers State.
