Golden Bears top Dragons to complete weekend sweep

Concordia jumps into second place in the NSIC South Division

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul (13-6, 9-6 NSIC) played strong fourth quarter defense in picking up a 70-59 win over MSU Moorhead (6-10, 5-7 NSIC) on Saturday at Gangelhoff Center.

The win moves Concordia into second in the NSIC South Division standings with CSP going 2-0 on the weekend couple with Sioux Falls dropping a pair to NSIC North Division opponents. The Golden Bears finished cross-divisional play 3-4 and have now won three of their last four games. The two teams will meet next Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Sioux Falls before CSP heads to Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Junior point guard Meghan DuBois led three Golden Bears in double-figures with 21 points, adding seven rebounds and six assists. Sophomore forward Sydney Zgutowicz contributed her fifth double-double of the year with a season-high 19 points along with 11 rebounds. She was 8-for-8 from the foul line as Concordia hit 85.3 percent (15-18) from the stripe as a team.

In the fourth quarter, Concordia drilled down defensively, holding MSU Moorhead to 21.4 percent (3-14) shooting, while on the offensive end the Golden Bears made all 10 free throws in the quarter and shot 54.5 percent (6-11).

Leading 53-51 with five and a half minutes to go, sophomore guard Jadyn Hanson went on a scoring spree over the next three minutes, hitting three straight shots for a 7-0 run and a 9-point lead. She finished with 14 points in the game, adding six rebounds and five steals.

For the game, Concordia shot 45.5 percent (25-55) while holding the Dragons to 36.1 percent (22-61).

The Dragons were led by Peyton Boom's 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals while Mariah McKeever had 13 points and six rebounds.
