SCOUTING THE WOLVES
CSP will take on the Wolves of Northern State (S.D.) as the Wolves come off a 1-1 (2OT) tie against Augustana University. It is their only tie of the season so far. In the current NSIC standings, Northern State sits in seventh place, one spot above Concordia.
Bellis added, "NSU under a new staff are looking strong, hard to break down, and resilient. So, we will need to be more creative and willing to battle for a result."
Concordia trails in the all-time record with NSU as the Golden Bears are 6-18-1 against the opponent. In the last meeting between the two squads, however, the Bears took a 6-0 win on Oct. 27, 2019 in Aberdeen.
Of NSU's 30-person roster, eight athletes are upperclassmen, CSP only has five. However, during the match in 2019, four current Bears saw action on the pitch. Katie Anderson scored a hat-trick while Nikki Anderson scored in the 7th minute and Jessica Timpane earned her first goal of the season.
On the pitch, Northern State is being led offensively by Megan Fastenau, Lilja Davidsdottir, and Eva Larson, all of whom have two goals in 2021. Fastenau edges her two teammates with five points to four with an assist.
Goalkeeper Alexus Townsend has a 0.837 save percentage, allowing seven goals in six games, allowing for a 1.13 goals against average. She has made 36 saves and has faced 85 shots.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
The MSU Moorhead Dragons have yet to find a win in seven games this season as they currently sit at the bottom of the NSIC standings. Coach Bellis will not let that get to his squad as he mentioned, "Moorhead will provide a very competitive game. They're always stubborn and will work hard to keep us to zeros."
Against the Dragons, the Golden Bears command a 17-5-2 lead in the all-time record and are currently on a historical 11-win streak that started back on Oct. 4, 2009 with a 4-2 win at home. The Bears have only fallen to the Dragons in Moorhead three times and have tied on the road twice.
More recently, the Bears defeated the Dragons 3-0 while in Moorhead on Oct. 25, 2019. Current CSP player Jena Berkland had both a goal and an assist in the match.
The Dragons have struggled to find their offense in 2021, currently being led by Moorhead native and freshman forward Ally Peterson who has scored once in a non-conference slate against Black Hills State (RMAC).
In net, MSUM has split time between sophomore Simone Lewald and senior Kayleigh Sedlacek. Lewald has played 119:35, starting in one game and playing in two. She has faced 24 shots and has made five saves. She has allowed five goals with a 3.76 goals against average and a 0.500 save percentage.
Sedlacek has the lion's share of minutes in net thus far in the season with 510:25. She has started and played in six matches for her squad and has faced 94 shots, making 32 saves. Through six games she has allowed 13 goals with a 2.29 GAA and a 0.711 save percentage.
After narrowly falling to the Beavers last Sunday, Coach Bellis is confident in his team for the coming matches and he believes, "CSP soccer is raring to go!"
Following the weekend road trip, the women's soccer team will return home for a weekend series against Winona State on Friday, Oct. 8 and Upper Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 10.
