LAST TIME OUT
Over the weekend, the Golden Bears picked up a pair of sweeps in their NSIC home opening weekend against Minot State and UMary.
On Friday, sophomore
Jasmine Mulvihill was nearly unstoppable as she led all players with 15 kills and no errors on just 18 swings. Her .833 attack percentage tied for second-best all-time at Concordia (minimum 12 attempts), trailing only Maria Steinhagen's mark of .883 (15-0-17) set back on Oct. 7, 2006 against Bemidji State.
Mulvihill was one of three Golden Bear hitters to surpass .500 hitting as
Kennedy Brady picked up seven kills on eight swings for a mark of .875 while
Katie Mattson finished at .533 with nine kills and one error on 15 attempts.
Kora Kritzberger added an impressive performance of her own in the third set as she picked up five kills on seven attempts.
As a team, CSP put up their second best hitting percentage of the season at .393 with 47 kills and 14 errors on 84 attempts on the night while Minot State finished at .136 with 18 kills and nine errors on 66 attempts. Concordia served tough throughout the night as they tallied 11 aces compared to five for MiSU and added a 30-22 edge in digs in the win.
On Saturday, it was another strong all-around performance as Concordia controlled nearly every aspect of play in the victory. CSP held a 48-19 edge in kills, a 9.0-3.0 edge in blocks and a 43-32 edge in digs while out-hitting the Marauders .351-.024 on the day. The match marked the fifth time the team surpassed the .300 mark hitting and third time they held their opponents below .100 on the season.
Concordia had four hitters collect at least eight kills on the day, led by 14 from
Jasmine Mulvihill, while
Katie Mattson and
Sophia Andersen had nine kills apiece in addition to eight for
Makenna Berger. Mulvihill hit .440 while tallying five digs, three aces and a pair of blocks while Mattson paced the squad with four blocks and an efficient .615 hitting percentage. Berger chipped in nine digs as well.
UPPER IOWA SERIES HISTORY
The Golden Bears and Peacocks are set to meet for the 20th time in the all-time series on Wednesday as CSP enters the contest with a perfect mark of 19-0 in the previous meetings. Concordia has dropped just two of the 59 sets overall while nine of their wins have come in St. Paul. UIU's last set win came in a four-set victory for Concordia back on Sept. 14, 2017.
LAST MEETING VS UIU
Back on Nov. 2, 2019, the Golden Bears extended their streak to 16 consecutive set wins in a sweep of Upper Iowa at Gangelhoff Center.
It was an all-around dominant performance for Concordia as they controlled play in nearly every area in the win. CSP's block once again caused problems for their opponent as they tallied 11.0 total blocks while holding UIU to just 29 kills and an .075 hitting percentage. The Golden Bear offense finished with 46 kills and a solid .310 hitting percentage on the other side of the net as they also held a 5-0 edge in service aces.
The duo of
Jasmine Mulvihill and
Kennedy Brady played a major role in the strong play at the net as both finished with eight blocks on the night. Mulvihill added a team-best 14 kills as well as four digs while Brady hit .412 with seven kills.
Erin Fallert joined Mulvihill in double figures with 11 kills to go along with 15 digs to finish with her 14th double-double of the year while
Tori Hanson paced the squad with 18 digs in the win.
