Softball sweeps Minot State in a Saturday doubleheader

CSP caps off home stand with a sweep and improving to 4-0 in NSIC play

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Golden Bear softball team (10-8, 4-0 NSIC) finished off their weekend home span of home games with another sweep, this time over Minot State (10-10, 3-3, NSIC). The Golden Bears took game one 5-0 and then finished off the doubleheader sweep with a 9-1 victory in game two.
 
The Golden Bears will hit the road next week with games at Upper Iowa on Wednesday, Augustana on Saturday and then finishing their road trip at Wayne State on Sunday. 
 
Grace Beseman continued to have a great weekend as she collected a combined four hits and four RBI's in today's double header. Bryanna Olson pitched a complete game shutout in game one and Amanda Parsons drove in four runs on the day. 
 
GAME ONE: Concordia-St. Paul 5, Minot State 0
The Golden Bears struck early in the bottom of the first when Clara Heislen reached on an error by the third baseman, she would advance to second base on the same throwing error. After two quick outs it looked like the Beavers were going to tight rope out of danger but Aryka Knoche came through on a single to left, scoring Heislen and giving CSP the early 1-0 lead. 
 
Concordia would tack on another run in the bottom of the third inning. Kris McIntyre got a single down the right field line with two outs, she stole second and Grace Beseman drove her in on an RBI single to center field to make it 2-0 Golden Bears. 
 
CSP had a big fifth inning with back-to-back singles by McIntyre and Beseman, Amanda Parsons came through on a big two run double to make it 4-0 Golden Bears. Ani Bell pinch hit for Taylor Griffin and she reached second on an error by the Beaver's left fielder which allowed Parsons to score and make it 5-0. 
 
That would be all that Bryanna Olson would need as she tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits, two walks and struck out four batters. She moves to 4-4 on the season.
 
Grace Beseman led the way going 2-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Amanda Parsons went 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI's. Kris McIntyre went 2-4 with two runs scored, Aryka Knoche went 1-3 with an RBI, Hanna Mortenson went 1-2, and Meagan Bliese went 1-3 in the Golden Bear game one victory.
 
GAME TWO: Concordia-St. Paul 9, Minot State 1
In game two it was the Minot State Beavers who got on the board first. Jamie Odlum led off the game with a single, Maggie Mercer then placed a beautiful bunt single down the third base line to make it first and second with no outs. After a pop out, Isis Cabral singled through the left side, scoring Odlum and giving Minot State a 1-0 lead. Kali Kaestner was able to pitch out of the jam to keep it to a one run deficit. 
 
After two quick innings, CSP was finally able to break through. Taylor Griffin walked to begin the bottom of the third inning, Hanna Mortenson singled to right field, advancing Griffin to second. Meagan Bliese laid down a sacrifice bunt, allowing Griffin to go to third and Mortenson to second. After Clara Heislen reached on a fielder's choice, Kris McIntyre singled through the right side, scoring Griffin to tie the game 1-1. Grace Beseman got in on the action with an RBI single to left field, scoring Mortenson and giving CSP a 2-1 lead. Knoche would drive in a run on an RBI single and Amanda Parsons drove in two on a double to make it 5-1 Concordia. 
 
The Golden Bears would add four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Meagan Bliese reached on a one out walk and then Clara Heislen singled to third base, Bliese advanced to second. A batter later, Grace Beseman ripped a two-run single to center field, scoring both Bliese and Heislen. Aryka Knoche would single, sending Beseman to second, Parsons reached on an error, scoring Beseman and allowing pinch runner Alexus Houston to advance to second base. Hannah Mihalik singled through the right side, scoring Houston to make it a 9-1 Concordia lead. It was Mihalik's first hit and RBI of the 2021 season. 
 
Kali Kaestner made quick work of the Beaver lineup in the top of the fifth inning and because of the eight-run rule, the Golden Bears won the game in five innings. Kaestner went all five innings, allowing one run on eight hits, one walk and five strikeouts, she Is now 5-2 on the season. 
 
Grace Beseman went 2-3 in the game with two runs scored and three RBI's, Aryka Knoche went 2-3 with an RBI, Amanda Parsons went 1-3 with two RBI's, Kris McIntyre went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Clara Hesilen went 1-3 with two runs scored, Hannah Mihalik went 1-3 with an RBI, and Hanna Mortenson went 1-2 with a run scored.
