Golden Bears and Peacocks battle to a 0-0 tie

In their first conference matchup of the season CSP and Upper Iowa play to a 0-0 2OT tie

FAYETTE, Iowa. – The Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears played to a 0-0 tie with the Upper Iowa Peacocks on a hot sunny afternoon in Fayette, Iowa. The Concordia-St. Paul soccer team, who is still undefeated on the season, (3-0-1, 0-0-1 NSIC) were held to a scoreless tie in their first conference matchup of the season with Upper Iowa (0-2-2, 0-0-1 NSIC). 
 
This was the first ever tie between the Golden Bears and the Peacocks in their seventeen matchups. The Golden Bears are now 8-8-1 in the series vs Upper Iowa, 3-3-1 record at Upper Iowa and are 4-5-1 against them in their last 10 matchups. 
 
 It was a scoreless first half in Iowa as both teams had their chances. The Golden Bears edged out the Peacocks in total shots 9-2. The Bears had four shots on goal and Upper Iowa put two shots on net, both were stopped by senior goalkeeper Jordyn Clark


Jackie Ehlert had a scoring chance at the 13-minute mark in the first half, but it was saved by the Peacocks keeper Natalie Rudrud. Sophomore Jena Berkland gave the Golden Bears another chance in the 25th minute mark as she tried to go up top for the goal but that was knocked away by Rudrud. A minute later, the Peacocks answered with a scoring opportunity of their own as Credence White took a shot that was saved by Jordyn Clark. The Golden Bears quickly got the ball back down the field as the team's leading scorer, Leah Johnson, had an opportunity with a shot on goal in the 27th minute mark. Johnson tried to go bottom right corner but Rudrud was able to make the save for the Peacocks. Towards the end of the half both teams had a scoring opportunity. The Peacocks had the first chance as Katie Samuels tried to sneak a low shot past Jordyn Clark, but she was able to make the save at the 40-minute mark. Four minutes later the Golden Bears had their chance to get the first goal as Katie Anderson took a shot that was stopped by Rudrud. 
 
It was a similar story in the second half, the Bears stepped up their offense, holding an 8-1 advantage in shots throughout the final 45 minutes. CSP was only able to get one shot on goal as Haleigh Bares tried to knock a hard shot on the ground but Peacocks keeper Natalie Rudrud was there to stop it. Near the end of the second half, Jessica Kron of Upper Iowa tried to seal a late goal for the Peacocks, but Jordyn Clark made the save to keep the game alive for the Bears. 


In the first 10 minute over time each team got a shot off. Haleigh Bares for CSP tried to bury a goal from deep out of the box but missed wide. Aimee Sies got a shot on goal that was saved by Jordyn Clark in the 98th minute. 
 
In the second overtime the Golden Bears dominated as they held a 2-1 shot advantage over the Peacocks in the final 10 minutes of play. Jena Berkland tried to win for the Bears in the 108th minute but it was saved by Rudrud to seal the 0-0 tie. 
 
Concordia dominated in total shots with a 20-5, they also led in total shots on goal with a 6-4 edge over the Peacocks. Senior defender Hannah Pavek and Haleigh Bares led the offense with four shots, Bares had one on net. Leah Johnson had two shots with one on goal, Jena Berkland had two shots on net also. Alexa Hepner, Emily Boyer, Jackie Ehlert, Sophie Pawlyshyn, and Katie Anderson each got a shot off as well throughout the game. 
 
Jordyn Clark played all 110 minutes of the game, making four saves while facing three corner kicks throughout the game. She is now 3-0-1 on the year. For the Peacocks, Natalie Rudrud played all 110 minutes and made six saves while facing six corner kicks. She is now 0-2-2 on the season.
 
Head coach Steve Bellis commented on the 0-0 tie, "We came up on a very defensive side and ultimately couldn't break them down. We will accept and respect they gave us and learn from it moving forward. We will take a lot of positives from this game and prepare for Sunday."
