Golden Bears shoot lowest 18-hole team score since 2010

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team wrapped up one of the best tournaments in school history Saturday, finishing second at the NSIC Championships with a total score of 896 (+44) over 54 holes of play. That mark was the lowest the Golden Bears have posted for a 54-hole tournament since the NSIC Championships in 2010 and their sole possession of second place is their best finish in program history at the NSIC Championships.

Concordia used a round of 290 (+6) to shoot past Bemidji State on the final day of the tournament, as the Golden Bears came into the day trailing Beavers by four strokes for second place. CSP's score of 290 was the best round the program has seen since shooting a 289 in 2013 at the UIU Spring Invite.

Winona State won the tournament with a score of 870 (+18). The Warriors shot a 277 (-7) on the final day to pull away and also had the top individual golfer in Ben Jasper (214, +1).

Mason Fiddle and Taylor Zack put up a stellar effort to lead the Golden Bears, both tying for seventh place. Both shot a total score of 221 (+8) to finish just one stroke from being named All-NSIC. Zack shot a 73 (+2) in the final round of play while Fiddle used just 72 (+1) strokes to finish up the final 18 holes of the tournament. Both posted 33 pars on the tournament to finish tied for fourth in the statistic. Zack's final line read 75-73-73 while Fiddle went 72-77-72.

While the Golden Bears were accustomed to seeing Fiddle and Zack post top rounds, they also got big-time performances from both Brian Peterson (72, +1) and Thomas Huettl (73, +2) in the final 18 holes of the NSIC Championships. Peterson finished the final round  of the tournament and his Golden Bear career on a tear, as the Huntington, Iowa native shot five-under-par over his 11 last holes. His mark of 72 was the best 18-hole score of his Golden Bear career.

Peterson also finished second in the tournament in birdies, sinking 11 over 54 holes. He made a 14-stroke improvement over his day two score and finished with a final line of 77-86-72 to finish tied for 29th at 235 (+22).

Freshman Thomas Huettl also posted a career best with his score of 73 and finished tied for 27th with a total score of 234 (+21). His final line read 83-78-73 as he improved in each day of play.

Nick Navarro rounded out the scorecard for CSP as the freshman finished with a final line of 80-74-82. Navarro tied for 33rd with a score of 236 (+23).
