ST. PAUL, Minn. – After a weekend that featured two victories, the Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (6-0-1, 3-0-1 NSIC) will be back on the road to take on Minot State (1-6, 1-3 NSIC) and UMary (3-1-1, 1-1-1 NSIC) to continue their NSIC schedule. The Golden Bears first play Minot State under the lights on October 4th at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. game on the 6
th at UMary.
The Bears are one of three NSIC teams that are tied for first place in the conference, as Bemidji State and Augustana are also 3-0-1 in conference play. #4 Minnesota State was defeated on Sunday by St. Cloud State 2-1 in OT, they are now 3-1 in conference action. CSP is also off to their best start since the 2001 season when they started out 7-0 that year.
LAST TIME OUT
This past weekend the Golden Bears played their first home games of the season against St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth, and won both games, earning them six conference points on the weekend. This was the first time ever that the Golden Bears have defeated the Huskies and Bulldogs in the same weekend. CSP is now 4-9-5 all time against SCSU and 2-16-3 all time against UMD.
In Friday's game against SCSU, it was a battle the entire game. Each team put up six shots in the first half and SCSU edged out CSP in the second half with a close 7-6 margin, the Golden Bears put seven shots on net and the Huskies put five shots on goal. It wasn't until the 83
rd minute that the Golden Bears finally broke the ice and freshman forward,
Nikki Anderson scored her third goal of the season to put the Bears up 1-0 and that was all Concordia needed to win the game. Anderson was assisted by
Haleigh Bares which was her 1st of the season.
Jordyn Clark recorded the victory as she played in all 90 minutes and made five saves.
Sunday's game against UMD proved to be just as evenly matched, as the Bears and Bulldogs were both unable to score in the first half. UMD out shot CSP in the first half 6-5, Concordia dominated in the second half as they out shot the Bulldogs 11-5, the Golden Bears also edged out Minnesota Duluth in shots on net with a 5-4 margin. Jackie Ehlert stepped up into the offense play and scored on a great ball from teammate,
Hannah Pedersen. In the 77
th minute of play Ehlert took the cross from Pedersen and beat the defender and took a hard shot on the ground to find the right side of the net and get the Golden Bears up 1-0. The Bears defense and
Jordyn Clark shut the door and the Golden Bears earned the 1-0 victory and the weekend sweep.
Jordyn Clark made four saves and played all 90 minutes, earning the victory.
MINOT STATE SERIES HISTORY
Since playing the Beavers starting in 2012, the Bears are 0-7 all-time against MSU. Six of the seven games have been decided by only one goal, with the last four matchups ending with a 1-0 score in favor of Minot State.
LAST MEETING VS MSU
Last year's matchup with Minot State was fairly evenly matched, Concordia dominated in shots in the first half edging out Minot State 6-1, the second half was a little closer as CSP had seven shots and the Beavers had five shots. The Golden Bears had 14 total shots in this game but failed to get any on net. The Beavers had seven shots with two of them on net. After two scoreless halves, the Beavers Haley Berryman squeaked one past
Emily Nelson in the 95
th minute to win the game for Minot State.
Ten different Golden Bears fired shots during the game, with
Jade Weller leading the way with three. Teammates Katie Gifford and
Jena Berkland also were offensive threats, each adding two shots of their own.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
Minot State is 1-6 this season, with a 1-3 record in NSIC play. In their last weekend of competition, they lost to Wayne State 2-1 and lost to Augustana 3-0. CSP does not yet have any common opponents with the Beavers.
The Beavers return 15 players from last year's team and add 12 new players to this year's roster. They return their top goal-scorer from 2018 in Sofia Lewis, who scored 16 goals last season and had eight assists. This year she has yet to record a goal or an assist, she leads the team with 22 shots. Daniela Fonseca and Anabel Noches lead the team with one goal on the season. Kelsey Pena and Melanie van Walstijn each have an assist on the year. Erin Rafferty has started in net for six games this season, She has 41 saves, a .804 save percentage and a 1.67 goals against average on the year.
As a team, the Beavers have scored two goals and have given up 18 this year, have averaged 9.4 shots per game, 28 of their 66 shots have been on goal and they have a .424 shots on goal percentage. Their opponents are averaging 2.56 goals per game, 16.1 shots per game, a .159 shots percentage and have put 64 shots on net with a .566 shots on goal percentage.
UMARY SERIES HISTORY
The Bears have a 3-13-1 all-time record against the Marauders but have won three of their last four matchups. All three of those wins came when playing at Sea Foam Stadium, they are 0-5 when playing in Bismarck. UMary opened the series with seven straight wins before CSP forced a tie in 2009. The Marauders then compiled another win streak against the Bears, this time taking five straight before Concordia recorded a win in 2015.

In their last meeting, the Golden Bears offense exploded for three goals to defeat the Marauders 3-0. CSP out shot UMary 11-9, the Bears had three shots on net, all resulting in goals, The Golden Bears defense held the Marauders to one shot on goal the entire game. All three of Concordia's goals came in the second half when
Emily Boyer got it started in the 53
rd minute, she was assisted by
Jordan Rowan-Stafford. Haliegh Bares scored an unassisted goal in the 79
th minute to make it 2-0.
Brooke Salo put the game away when she scored on a pass form

st minute to make it 3-0.
Jordyn Clark recorded the shutout victory, playing all 90 minutes and making one save.
ABOUT THE MARAUDERS
UMary is 3-1-1 on the year and 1-1-1 in the NSIC. They are most recently coming off a 1-0 loss against Augustana and a 4-0 win over Wayne State. Before taking on the Bears on Sunday, UMary will face off with #4 Minnesota State on Friday afternoon in Bismarck.
The Marauders return 16 players from last year and add another nine for this season. They have lost their leading scorer from a year ago, Caylin Cathey. Junior Hannah Richter leads the team with two goals and one assist for five points. Four other players have a goal and they have five players with one assist. Madisyn Waltman has started in all five games and has made 18 saves for a .947 save percentage and a .19 goals against average.
The Marauders have scored seven goals this year and have only allowed one goal.
