ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia Golden Bears men's basketball team (4-6) will look to get back on track in their final non-conference game of the season as they play host to Presentation (9-6) on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Gangelhoff Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, Concordia dropped both contests in their home opening weekend to Upper Iowa and Winona State as both teams pulled away from CSP in the second half.
CSP saw their opponents shoot 50.0% from the floor and 42.1% from three-point range while they were held to 43.9% on the offensive end and 24.4% from deep. The Golden Bears did, however, outrebound their opponents 69-64 on the weekend, including a 16-9 edge on the offensive glass.
Bryndan Matthews picked up his fifth double-double of the season on Saturday to help him finish the weekend with 17.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
Isaiah McKay contributed 18.0 points and 5.0 boards per game in just 27.5 minutes per game over the two contests.
PC SERIES HISTORY
Concordia has met Presentation two previous times heading into Tuesday night's clash with both teams grabbing a win in the series. CSP claimed a comfortable 71-59 win back on Feb. 24, 1998 before Presentation even the series with an 87-73 win last season in St. Paul.
LAST MEETING VS PC
In last season's meeting on Nov. 21, 2017, CSP dropped their final home non-conference contest by a score of 87-73 to Presentation at Gangelhoff Center in the team's fourth game in five days.
After a high-flying first half with a lot of offense, Concordia hit just 31.7% (13-41) after the break to finish the night at 40.0% (30-75). Presentation managed the same number of made field goals (30) on 21 less shots to finish at 55.6% in the win. The Saints also gained an edge from the free throw line as they hit 17-21 (81.0%) compared to 6-8 (75.0%) for CSP as well as 10-21 (47.6%) from three compared to 7-28 (25.0%) for the Golden Bears.
The Golden Bears held a solid edge on the offensive glass (11-4) to lead to a 13-2 edge in second chances points while they also turned it over just six times, but it was not enough to pick up the win.
Bryndan Matthews tallied his second 20-10 game in the past three games as he paced the squad with a season-high 21 on 9-18 shooting and 2-4 from deep while also filling the stat sheet with 10 boards, three assists and two steals in a full box score.
ABOUT THE SAINTS
Presentation College is an NAIA school located in Aberdeen, S.D. that competes in the North Star Athletic Association.
The Saints enter the meeting riding high after winning five of their last six contests, including a convincing 98-75 win over Nebraska Christian College. PC has been much better on their home court as they have rattled off six wins in eight contests at home while going 2-2 in neutral site games and 1-2 on the road. Tuesday night's matchup will count as an exhibition for the Saints.
Quandre Lollis leads the team with 17.7 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game as one of four to average double figures in scoring for Presentation. Jalen Guidry has been the leading assist man for the Saints with 4.9 assists per game this season.
