ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's basketball team (4-6, 0-5 NSIC) was unable to keep pace with Winona State (5-5, 2-3 NSIC) in an 82-66 loss at Gangelhoff Center on Saturday night.
The Warriors continued their dominance in St. Paul as they won their 20
th in 22 trips to Gangelhoff Center and improved to 46-6 in the all-time series with CSP. WSU was opportunistic in the turnover category as they turned 11 CSP turnovers into 21 points while the Golden Bears managed just seven points on eight Winona State turnovers. The Warriors also edged the Golden Bears in shooting percentage (49.1%-46.4%), threes made (9-5), rebounds (32-30) and second chance points (7-2) in an all-around impressive performance.
Concordia finished the night with three players in double figures as
Bryndan Matthews paced the squad with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists to pick up the double-double.
Elliot Kane added a solid showing with 14 points on 6-10 from the floor while also chipping in five boards and four assists and
Isaiah McKay put up 10 points, two rebounds and two assists as well.
Max Keefe added nine points off the bench as he hit 3-4 from the floor and 2-2 from the line.

The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 5-3 lead, but a 6-0 run for the Warriors gave WSU the lead for good as they jumped ahead at the 17:02 mark and remained out front for the rest of the night. Concordia kept the margin within a pair of possessions until the midway point of the half before a 7-0 burst for Winona State turned a 19-16 lead into a double-digit advantage at 26-16 with 8:21 to go before the break. CSP had it back down to six at 30-24, but another run for WSU, this time an 11-5 stretch, gave the Warriors their biggest lead of the half at 41-28 with 2:27 left. Concordia answered with seven straight, however, before finishing the opening 20 minutes down 45-37.
The Warriors regained a double-digit edge early in the second half at 50-39, but CSP fought their way back to within five at 55-50 with 13:31 to play following an extended 11-5 run spanning just over four minutes. That would be all the closer they would get as threes on each of the next two possessions for Winona State had the lead back to nine. WSU further added to their lead a few minutes later as they scored 10 unanswered to balloon their lead all the way out to 17 at 73-56 just part the midway point of the half. The lead remained comfortably in double figures throughout the rest of the contest, peaking at 18 at 80-62, before the Warriors settled with an 82-66 final.
The Golden Bears have a quick turnaround as they remain at home on Tuesday night with Presentation coming to town for a non-conference matchup set for 6 p.m.
