Macek, Lewis and Mohr earn AVCA All-America honors

Macek named First Team while Lewis and Mohr named Second Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released the 2018 Division II All-America Teams and Concordia-St. Paul had three players named AVCA All-America. Junior Sara Macek was selected to the First Team while seniors Elizabeth Mohr and Brooklyn Lewis were named to the Second Team.
 
The Golden Bears were one of three programs to collect three All-American picks as they matched Western Washington and Wheeling Jesuit for the highest total of any school. Also garnering selections from the NSIC were SMSU's Taylor Reiss and UMD's Sarah Kelly on the First Team and USF's Bria Barfnecht and UMD's Emily Torve on the Second Team, and MSU's Morgan Olson on the Third Team.
 
Exactly 12 of the athletes honored on the AVCA All-America teams in 2018 have received the award multiple times.
 
The 2018 All-America selections were made by the AVCA Division II All-America Committee: Flip Piontek (chairperson), Chris Herron (Central Region), Karrin Moore (East Region), Wick Colchagoff (Midwest Region), Jenn King (South Region), Chuck Waddington (South Central), Heather Vahjen (Southeast), Chris Green (West Region).
 
#12 Sara Macek (MB, 5-11, Jr., Monticello, Minn. / Monticello HS)

  • All-NSIC First Team
  • Expected to be two-time NSIC All-Academic
  • NSIC Offensive Player of the Week (10/8/18)
  • Finished second in the NSIC and 11th in the nation in hitting percentage at .388
  • Her .388 hitting percentage is ninth-best in single-season history at CSP
  • Led the team with 0.74 blocks per set, registering 13 solo blocks and 77 block assists
  • Ranked second on the team with 3.14 kills per set and 380 total kills
  • Had 10+ kills in 20 matches on the year, including 17 of the last 19 matches 
  • Hit .400 or better in 21 matches, including 10 at .500 or better
 
#3 Brooklyn Lewis (OH, 5-10, Sr., Kasson, Minn. / Kasson-Mantorville HS)
  • Two-time AVCA All-America Second Team
  • Two-time AVCA All-Region
  • Two-time D2CCA All-Region Second Team
  • Two-time All-NSIC First Team
  • Expected to be three-time NSIC All-Academic
  • NCAA Central Region All-Tournament Team
  • Colorado Premier Challenge All-Tournament Team
  • Ferris State Volleyball All-Tournament Team

  • Ranked eighth in the NSIC with 3.72 kills per set and 4.05 points per set
  • Ranked third in program history with 3.67 kills per set in her career
  • Finished her career ranked 20th in program history with 1,049 kills
  • Had double-digit kills in 28 of 33 matches, including six matches with 20+ kills
