Golden Bears bested by #5 Bemidji State on Friday

CSP plays again on Sunday against Minnesota Crookston

BEMIDJI, Minn. – For the second game in a row, the Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (7-3-3, 4-3-3 NSIC) played a nationally ranked opponent, this time falling to #5 Bemidji State (13-0, 10-0 NSIC) 3-0 on the road on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Bears currently remain in fifth place in the NSIC with 15 conference points. Minot State, Winona State, Northern State, and Minnesota Duluth, who are all tied for sixth with 13 points, all play later this evening.

Concordia is now 8-12-2 in their all-time series history with the Beavers and move to 3-7 when playing in Bemidji. The 3-0 score marks the ninth game between the two teams that has been decided by more than one goal. With the win, Bemidji State remains undefeated on the season, stretching their program best winning streak to 13 games.

This was only the fourth time that the Golden Bears have been held scoreless this season, and is only the second game that the team has given up more than one goal to any opponent.

The Beavers showed off their versatile offense as they had three different players score and three different players pick up assists on the day. Freshman Erin Becker got BSU on the board first, scoring within the box in the 22nd minute, which gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Despite threatening on multiple occasions, the Bears only got one shot off in the first half, which was taken by senior Brooke Salo in the sixth minute of play.

In the second half, CSP had three different shot opportunities with junior Jackie Ehlert getting an especially open look in the 89th minute, firing a shot that went just wide. Salo and senior Jordan Rowan-Stafford also got shots off in the second half. Overall, the Beavers held a 12-4 edge in shots and had an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal throughout the game.

BSU scored twice in the second half with freshman Devin Breeggemann finding the back of the net from 25 yards out in the 69th minute and freshman teammate Megan Dahl scoring off a free kick in the 75th minute. Both goals were the first of their careers.

Junior Jordyn Clark recorded the loss in net, but tied her single-game high for saves on the year with five. In addition to the saves, Clark stopped many other Beaver scoring threats by sliding in the box to hinder shot and cross opportunities. The Eagan native is now 5-2-2 on the season.
