MINOT, N.D. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (15-34, 7-21 NSIC) dropped their double header at Minot State (23-18, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon. Minot won game one, 2-0 and then took game two 8-0 in five innings to complete the sweep.
GAME 1: Minot State 2, Concordia-St. Paul 0
The Beavers would retire CSP in order to begin the game and then jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a RBI double Ashley Hill with two outs.
Concordia had a prime opportunity to tie the game or take the lead in the third but stranded runners on second and third to end the inning.
Sarah Kivisto recorded the Golden Bears first hit of the game with a single to lead off the inning.
In the fourth both teams put runners in scoring position but neither were able to bring their runner home.
Haley Schanks singled and then stole second for CSP to put herself in scoring position and Skyla Neubauer tripled for Minot.
Following a scoreless fifth, Minot made it a 2-0 advantage after six innings of play. Tori Zimmerman would come in to pinch hit and deliver with a RBI single with runners on the corners. The Beavers would load the bases later in the inning but starting pitcher,
Linzy Heim would get out of the jam.
In the seventh Jenn Spencer (13-11) would earn her 13
th win of the season as she retired the Golden Bears in order for the game one win. Spencer allowed five hits, no runs and added four strikeouts.
Heim (9-15) took the loss after allowing six hits, two runs and striking out five in six innings of action.
Jordan Grant led the way for the Beavers going 2-4 at the plate. Ashley Hill and Tori Zimmerman recorded the two RBI for Minot.

Emily Shinn all recorded a hit for CSP in the loss.
GAME 2: Minot State 8, Concordia-St. Paul 0 (5 innings)
Through the first three innings of game two the hits were limited as Concordia only had one hit and Minot had two, but the Beavers did draw three walks. Despite the limited hits, Jordan Branch would double for Minot State scoring A Hill from first giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
The fourth was a big inning for the Beavers as they drove in seven runs to make it an 8-0 game. A pair of RBI singles by Jordan Branch and R Burdette and a pair of two RBI doubles by Lauren Cowden and A Hill helped propel the seven run fourth inning.
In the fifth Concordia would get a runner on second with no outs but the pitching of Clarissa Ramirez would retire the next three batters to seal the 8-0 win and sweep for the Beavers.
Ramirez (8-7) took the complete game win, allowing three hits, no runs, and striking out four.
Samantha Sullivan (6-15) took the loss allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out four.
Jordan Branch and Rachel Burdette led the Beavers going a perfect 2-2 at the plate combing for three RBI in the win.
Concordia was limited on their hits in game two as
Lily Langevin,
Liz Jarosz and
Linzy Heim were the only ones to get a hit against Ramirez.
Concordia wraps up their 2017 season tomorrow afternoon at U-Mary First pitch for game will be at 12 pm.
