ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul baseball team (10-10, 4-4 NSIC) has had their mid-week doubleheader with Bemidji State (7-13, 4-4 NSIC) pushed back to Thursday in Bemidji. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Due to current field conditions, the decision was made to push the games back a day. The forecast for Thursday in Bemidji as of Tuesday morning is in the mid-50's with partly cloudy skies.
LAST TIME OUT
In the Sunday-Monday series, the Golden Bears saw Minot State take three of four games as CSP came from behind to take game four.
The series was filled with twists and turns as the lead changed hands in the final three innings in each of the last three games of the series, including a go-ahead grand slam for Minot's Michael Borst in the ninth inning of game two.
In the last three games of the series, Concordia limited the Beavers to just a .240 batting average while collecting a 3.24 ERA as a group. All three starters worked at least seven innings and allowed two earned runs. Leading the way was
Kevin Woebke as he worked 8.0+ innings in game two, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out 10 in a no-decision.
At the plate,
Isaac Hormann picked up hits in all four games to finish with a team-best .429 average (6-14) to go along with three runs scored and an RBI.
SERIES HISTORY
The Golden Bears head into Thursday with a record of 35-24 in 59 previous meetings with Bemidji State. After a stretch in which BSU took 9 of 14 meetings from 2012-2015, Concordia has shifted the momentum in their favor with five consecutive wins in the series, including a four-game sweep last season. In 20 contests in Bemidji, CSP has gone 12-8.
LAST MEETING
In the NSIC opening weekend in St. Paul last season, Concordia rolled to a four-game sweep of the Beavers in dramatic fashion as they came from behind in all four games.
Concordia slugged 13 home runs in the four game series, producing a .707 team slugging percentage (.336/.394/.707 slash).
Tanner Holmquist hit .538/.538/1.462 (7-13) with four home runs and eight RBI in the series while
Connor Olson and
Ben Suits each slugged three home runs and a double and had game-winning home runs.
The Golden Bear pitching staff had 31 strikeouts in 32 innings.
Josh Lenz led the way as he picked up a pair of wins on the weekend in two relief appearance with 5.0 shutout innings, striking out three with six hits (all singles) and a walk.
Yuji Suzuki also made two relief appearances, earning a save in each.
