CLERMONT, Fla. - Concordia-St. Paul (5-13) dropped its first of two games on Friday morning, falling 3-1 to Ohio Dominican (13-11) at Legends Way.
GAME 1: Ohio Dominican 3, CSP 1
Concordia and Ohio Dominican each scored in the first inning before ODU scored a pair of runs but left the bases loaded in the third inning.
The Golden Bears attempted to claw back into the game the rest of the way as junior
Haley Schanks held Ohio Dominican scoreless down the stretch.
Concordia stranded runners on first and second base in the second, fifth and seventh innings, getting the two runners on in the fifth and seventh with no outs in the fifth and one out in the seventh but couldn't cross the plate.
Schanks ended up taking the tough loss, allowing two runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings in relief of
Samantha Sullivan, who allowed an unearned run in the first inning.
Sophomore
Carlie Hart went 3-4 from the leadoff spot while junior
Nicole Thompson and sophomore
Justine Schattner each went 2-4 in the second and third spot in the order. Freshman
Hannah Carlson went 1-4 and drove in a run. The four players accounted for all eight of CSP's hits.
Casey Murdoch earned the win for ODU, allowing a run despite CSP getting eight hits and two walks against her in 6.1 innings. Abby Lamping got the final two outs in relief to earn the save, pitching out of the two-on, one-out jam in the seventh to close the door.
