Soccer falls on the road to Northern State

CSP struggles against NSU

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Golden Bear soccer team (2-7-4, 2-4-4 NSIC) fell to Northern State (6-6, 4-6 NSIC) on the road Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-1.

"We gave it our all but came up short. Poor mistakes and uncharacteristic defenses lapses left us in an unexpected position and down 3-0 early in the second half." Head coach Steve Bellis said following the loss.

In the first half, both teams had their opportunities to break the 0-0 tie but could not manage to beat the opposing team's keeper. Both teams combined for 17 first half shots but went into the locker room tied at zero.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Northern State broke the tie as Stephany Estrada found the back of the net off a pass from Anna Bondy to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead early in the second half.

Just over four minutes later it was Estrada again, scoring her second goal of the game off yet another assist from Bondy, doubling NSU's lead on the Golden Bears.

Following Estrada's second goal of the game, the Wolves would find the back of the net yet again just over a minute later. Anna Bondy would add her fourth point of the game and her 13th goal of the season off a pass that was played back to her following a corner kick.

From there on, CSP would attempt eight shots to try and dig into Northern State's lead but their loan goal would come in the 83rd minute as Jordan Rowan-Stafford would score her team leading, third goal of the season from the middle of the box.

Both teams combined for 33 shots on the afternoon, 18-15 favoring NSU. Leading the way for the Golden Bears was Rowan-Stafford with four shot attempts while Erica Landry added three shots for CSP. Hannah Pavek, Brooke Salo, and Colette Piche all attempted two shots on the afternoon. For the Wolves, Anna Bondy and Darian Leschewski led the way with five shots on the afternoon. Stephany Estrada added three shot attempts for NSU.

Stacey Cavill came away with the win in net and made six saves while only allowing one goal. Rowan-Stafford's goal snapped a three game goalless streak for the Golden Bears.

CSP is back in action tomorrow as they travel MSU Moorhead for a 1 pm start time. Live video can be viewed at cspbears.com/watch.
