SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The eighth-ranked Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (9-3, 4-1 NSIC) finished off a 3-0 week with a sweep of Sioux Falls (8-6, 0-5 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears' offense was firing on all cylinders as they hit a season-best .362 as a team, with three different players hitting over .570 on the day. CSP had 43 kills on 94 attacks while committing just nine errors in the win. Concordia was consistent on the day as they hit at least .345 in each set.
Emma Lange stayed hot with another impressive performance as she led Concordia with 11 kills and a career-best .688 hitting percentage. She also chipped in five blocks.
Lange was joined by
Mariya Sampson in double figures in kills as Sampson added 10 kills along with three blocks and two digs.
Riley Hanson also had a nice day offensively with seven kills on a .583 hitting percentage.
As a team, Concordia out-blocked the Cougars 11.0-3.0 as six different players registered a block.
Heather Schiller led the way with nine blocks (one solo and eight assists) as she also added eight kills and hit .571 in an all-around impressive performance.
Taylor Dordan and
Emily McDonough led CSP in the back row as they each contributed nine digs.
Makenna Rockeman paced Sioux Falls with eight kills while Jordan Calef, Aubrey Milne and Bria Barfnecht all contributed seven kills.
Concordia set the tone for the day from the opening serve as they grabbed the first five points of the match to build an early lead. Sioux Falls battled back to close the gap to one at 7-6 and again at 14-13 but they were unable to get over the hump and pull even. A 5-0 run in favor of the Golden Bears extended the lead to 19-13 as CSP cruised to win the first set 25-20.
The second set began much in the same way as five of the first six points went in favor of the Golden Bears. The lead quickly hit double digits at 14-4 as Concordia put the set out of reach early. CSP grew the lead as large as 13 at 22-9 before settling with a 25-13 set win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Cougars kept things closer the in early going in the third set as the score remained tied at 5-5, but Concordia once again broke it open with a decisive run. CSP rattled off four points in a row to make it 12-6 before extending the lead to seven at 16-9. USF wouldn't get any closer than four the rest of the way as Concordia finished off the sweep with a 25-17 win in the final set.
CSP will look to continue their winning ways next weekend as they travel to #22 Augustana and #5 Wayne State.
