Baseball heads to Tucson for season opening trip

Golden Bears will play eight games in seven days including six against NSIC competition

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This week the Concordia baseball team will head to Tucson, Ariz. to open the 2015 season at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Golden Bears will play eight games in seven days including six against Northern Sun opposition in non-conference contests.

All eight games will feature live stats (refer to the schedule page for links on gameday) while the team's final contest of the trip next Tuesday, March 17 against Lubbock Christian will feature a live online audio webcast courtesy of LCU athletics.

Concordia was initially scheduled to open the season on February 21-22 at Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo. before snow cancelled the series. The Golden Bears are one of two teams in the Northern Sun who have yet to begin competition, with Minnesota Duluth scheduled to begin their season later in the week.

Concordia's six games against Northern Sun opponents will be two each against Minot State (0-3), Southwest Minnesota State (1-4) and Augustana (0-6) with the Augie games being a doubleheader. The non-conference games are against Hastings College (Neb.) and Lubbock Christian.

The Golden Bears were picked to finish seventh by league coaches in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll and picked 10th in the Central Region by the NCBWA.

The team is coming off of back-to-back top-5 finishes in the Northern Sun including last year's school record 20-win NSIC season (20-10, 4th) as the team went 28-14 overall.
