CSP extended their NSIC home winning streak to 15

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The third-ranked Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (13-3, 7-1 NSIC) swept University of Mary (8-9, 3-5 NSIC) on Friday night to extend their winning streak to seven. The Golden Bears also extended their home NSIC winning streak to 15.

Concordia dominated from start to finish as they hit .292 in the match and held the Marauders .073 in an all-around team effort. CSP had five different players put up at least seven kills and five different players contribute nine digs on the night. The Golden Bears outpaced U-Mary in kills (48-24), digs (62-44) and total blocks (7.0-5.0) as they controlled most aspects of the game.

Kasey Williams and Elizabeth Mohr split action from the setter position and each were effective as Williams had a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs while Mohr chipped in 17 assists. Taylor Dordan led all players with 17 digs while Hope Schiller also finished in double figures with 10 digs.

Thayna Silva led U-Mary with nine kills and Alex Brown paced the Marauders with 16 digs on the night.

The Golden Bears came out firing as they claimed the first eight points of the match and took a decisive lead in the early going. The lead eventually hit double digits at 12-2 and continued to grow from there as it reached as large as 13. The Marauders recovered down the stretch to slow the CSP run as Concordia eventually settled with a 25-13 set win in the first.

The second set was a bit more even early on as Concordia held a slight 4-3 lead before using a 5-0 run to take control of the set. U-Mary battled back to within three on three different occasions, including 13-10, but saw CSP pull away with seven of the next eight points to extend their lead to 20-11. Three points in a row made it interesting before the Golden Bears closed out the set 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

A determined Marauders squad got off to a strong start in the third set as they looked to extend the match. U-Mary took six of the first eight points and remained in the lead at 8-7 before CSP went ahead with a 3-0 run. The two teams traded the lead for the next several points as the Marauders led as late as 16-15 before Concordia took the lead for good. U-Mary fought until the end as the Golden Bears claimed a tight third set 25-22 to complete the sweep.

Concordia will look to extend their winning streak tomorrow afternoon as they host Minot State at 4 p.m.
