Two quick goals doom Golden Bears at Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Concordia Golden Bears soccer team fell to 0-3 on the season as they lost 2-0 at Viterbo University (7-1) on Sunday afternoon. The V-Hawks used two goals just 2:24 minutes apart early in the first half to grab the victory.

The Golden Bears created numerous chances to score and fought hard to dig themselves out of the two goal deficit but were once again able to put one past the keeper into the back of the net. Concordia collected 10 shots with five on goal while Viterbo attempted eight shots but were also able to put five on net.

Early in the game, just 2:26 in, Taryn MacMillan nearly put CU on top as she hit the post, just missing her first career goal in navy and gold. Just over 18 minutes into match the V-Hawks broke the tie on Morgan Davis' second goal of the season as she was set up by Molly Machometa. Courtney Morgan followed up the goal with her second goal of the year less than two and a half minutes later from Macie Maulbetsch.

CU created a few more chances before the break, including shots on net from McKenzie Buck and Anna Augustine, but were unable to close the gap before heading to the lockerroom.

Concordia continued to put on pressure in the second half as Jess Bianchi fired three shots, one on goal, and MacMillan and Alahna Anderson also added a shot on goal. The Viterbo duo of Alicia Seachford and McKenzie Guth withstood every effort as they split the game evenly in the shutout effort with Seachford picking up her seventh win on the season.

Emma Gartner finished the afternoon with three saves as she fell to 0-3 on the year.

The Golden Bears remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday and Sioux Falls on Sunday with both games starting at 1 p.m.
