SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Fourth-seed Concordia-St. Paul (28-14) fell 17-5 to third-ranked and top-seeded Minnesota State (41-8) on Wednesday night at Sioux Falls Stadium in the NSIC / US Bank Tournament in an elimination game.

Concordia's 28 wins on the season are the fifth most in a single season in program history while 20 NSIC wins set a new program record.

After trailing 1-0 early, Concordia rallied thanks to a pair of early triples by senior Elliot Powell with sophomore Alex LaPorte driving him in each time.

Powell's second triple brought home two runs as the Golden Bears took a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

He went 2-4 with a pair of runs and pair of RBI in the game. He ended the season hitting .351 (13-37) over the last 12 games to raise his average 52 points to end at .226 for the year.

Senior right handed starter John Hayes was strong for the Golden Bears in the early going, holding the strong-hitting Mavericks to a run on two hits with one walk with two strikeouts in the first three innings.

But he couldn't keep the lead in the fourth as MSU came alive for a seven run inning to take a 7-4 lead, forcing Hayes from the game in his shortest start of the year.

Senior right handed pitcher Adam Kramer relieved Hayes and did his best to limit further damage to keep the Golden Bears in the game.

Concordia tacked on a run in the sixth inning as junior Tyler Krekling singled home LaPorte down the right field line.

Krekling had a big day, going 3-4 with a double after also slugging a double in the first game to end his season at .296.

But the Mavericks would also get to Concordia's ace in a rare relief appearance.

After a solid fifth inning from Kramer, MSU blew the game open with a five run sixth inning capped by a 2-run home run by Stetson Olson, his 12th of the year.

Hayes took the loss, falling to 4-2 on the year as the Mavericks scored eight runs on five hits and three walks over his 3.2 innings.

Concordia's offense disrupted MSU's All-NSIC hurler Bryce Belling, roughing him up for five runs (four earned) over 7.0 innings. Concordia had 12 hits and forced Bellin to throw 113 pitches while raising his ERA to 2.38. But he picked up the win to improve to 5-1 on the year.

Junior Kyle Dalton had two of Concordia's 13 team hits, going 2-5 including another bunt single down the third base line. He closed the year out with a .436 average and 71 hits.

Senior Drew Turk went 2-4 in his final game as a Golden Bear, raising his average to .317.

LaPorte also had a pair of hits, going 2-3 and ends the year a .326 hitter.

The Mavericks were led by Nolan Johnson's four RBI as he went 1-3 at the plate out of the clean-up spot. Leadoff hitter Eric Peterson went 3-4 with three runs and three RBI.
