Concordia rides three game winning streak into the weekend

The Concordia University softball team (15-25, 10-10 NSIC) will look to improve on their three-game winning streak as they head #17 Augustana (33-8, 16-4 NSIC) and Wayne State (30-10, 16-2 NSIC) to take on two of the top teams in the league. First pitch is set for Friday at noon against Augustana and Saturday at 11 a.m. against Wayne State.

The Golden Bears have been swinging hot bats during their winning streak as they have averaged 8.0 runs and have hit .357 as a team in that span. The offensive surge has been a team effort with 12 different players collecting hits and scoring runs as well as seven different players picking up RBI.

Teona Zepeda has gone 6-10 with a pair of doubles and a triple, four RBI and five runs scored to improve her season average to .357.

In the same stretch, Bekah Roth went 6-12 with two doubles and four RBI to increase her team-leading batting average to .382.

Concordia has also seen two freshmen break out over the past few games as well. Liz Jarosz exploded for three home runs, a double and eight RBI to take the team lead in homers with seven and tie for the team lead with 37 RBI. Emily Shinn, meanwhile, has gone 4-9 with a walk and a steal and a pair of runs scored with a start at shortstop and two at second base.

Augustana enters the weekend riding a five game winning streak by winning the back half of a doubleheader with Minnesota Duluth, two wins over St. Cloud State and a pair of wins over Southwest Minnesota State. The Vikings rank fifth in the league in runs per game with 5.66 and rank first in runs allowed with 2.68.

Wayne State also enters on a winning streak as they have won their last 10 in a row. In the midweek, the Wildcats knocked off Sioux Falls 7-2 before having game two cancelled. WSC ranks third in runs per game and third in ERA with 6.38 runs per game and a 2.52 team ERA.

Currently, Wayne State is in second place, Augustana is in fourth place and Concordia sits in eighth place in the hunt for the postseason in the NSIC.
