ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University softball team (13-25, 8-10 NSIC) will continue NSIC play on Wednesday as they hit the road to take on Upper Iowa (13-21, 6-8 NSIC) for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The games were originally scheduled for Tuesday, but poor field conditions pushed the games back a day.
The Golden Bears are coming off a six-game homestand in which they went 1-5. CU had their home opener last Wednesday at Carlander Field as they played host to the Winona State Warriors. The Warriors took game one by a score of 3-2 and game two by a score of 14-4. With the wind gusting out for much of the day, the Warriors slugged out six homers and 27 hits in the doubleheader while the Golden Bears picked up 20 hits and failed to go deep. They returned to the field on Sunday after having their weekend games pushed back a day and they were swept by the University of Mary. The Marauders took game one 10-1 and game two 4-2 on the cold and windy day. U-Mary pitcher Cherlyn Trujillo allowed just one run on eight hits while striking out 18 in 11.1 innings of work. The reigning NSIC Newcomer of the Year picking up two wins in the doubleheader. On Monday, the Golden Bears gave up a late lead to Minot State as the Beavers scored six runs in the final three innings to take the first game 6-4. Concordia bounced back in game two as they scored at least a run in each of the first five innings en route to a 9-5 win.
Both
Alicia Meiser and
Bekah Roth, the team's two leading hitters have seen their averages increase over the past week. Meiser hit an even .500 (10-20) with four runs, two doubles, an RBI and seven steals in seven attempts on the homestand. She is now hitting .379 on the season and her 23 steals rank third in the NSIC. Roth has hit .455 (10-22) with a pair of runs and doubles and six RBI in the same span to increase her team-leading batting average to .380.
Upper Iowa enters the series coming off a weekend split with Northern State and MSU Moorhead. The Peacocks dropped game one to NSU 9-4 before taking the second game 7-1 and lost the first game to the Dragons 7-2 before taking game two 5-3.
