ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Tuesday's doubleheader orginally scheduled to be played in Crookston, Minn. has been relocated to campus as Concordia-St. Paul (16-8, 8-6 NSIC) will play its home opener as the visiting team against Minnesota Crookston (1-29, 0-18 NSIC) on Tuesday, April 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Barnes Field.
Concordia had been scheduled for 14 home games against four different opponents already, but ended up playing those games in four different cities, three different states, at three neutral sites and was the home team at an away stadium. Last weekend at Minot State was the first time in the conference season that the team played at the scheduled location.
It's only fitting that tomorrow's home opener was intended to be an away game, and the Golden Bears will serve as the away team at their own field.
PLAYER HITTING NOTES
Sophomore Ryan Poppitz went 4-7 with a double and two RBI to power Concordia to a 2-0 week with a pair of 5-2 wins at Minot State ... sophomore Eric Fasnacht also went 3-6 and senior Brooks Beilke went 4-9 ... junior Kyle Dalton also stayed hot by going 3-9 in the two wins ... Dalton is third in the league in hitting (.441) while Fasnacht is fourth (.418) while Poppitz is 11th with 25 RBI ... Dalton is also second in the NSIC with 1.71 hits per game while Poppitz is third with 1.09 RBI per game.
PLAYER PITCHING NOTES
Sophomore left hander
Zach Rengel (Fergus Falls, Minn./HS) went 6.0 innings and allowed one earned run to improve to 4-1 on the year in his sixth start ... in the process, Rengel lowered his season ERA to a league-leading 1.25 and is holding hitters to a .227 on the season, eighth in the league while allowing only four extra base hits all year ... since Rengel pitched on Saturday, he is not scheduled to start on Tuesday ... the team has not announced starting pitchers for Tuesday's games, as the team's series in Minot was shortened which allows greater flexibility for the coaching staff entering the shortened Easter week with weekend games on Friday and Saturday.
