MINNETONKA, Minn. -
Concordia-St. Paul (10-4, 2-2 NSIC) dropped a pair of games 5-0 and 11-0 to #15 St. Cloud State (15-4, 4-1 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Field on the campus of Minnetonka High School.

The two teams conclude their four game series with a doubleheader at Veterans Field at noon.

Junior Kyle Dalton had a hit in each game to extend his hitting streak to 25 games including all 14 games this year and is still hitting .500 on the season.

Concordia entered the four game series against the Huskies ranked #9 in the NCBWA Central Region Rankings, with St. Cloud State four spots ahead at #5 although the Huskies are also ranked #15 in the country by the Collegiate Baseball News Division II Coaches' Poll.

The Golden Bears came armed with aces Adam Kramer and Zach Rengel, together sporting a 6-0 record in six starts. Today, the pair looked the part of top NSIC arms to front a contender.

They were charged with the task of slowing down the top hitting team in the country as the Huskies entered play at .365.

Unfortunately they both took losses and fell to 3-1 despite giving up a combined four earned runs.

GAME 1: SCSU 5, Concordia 0
Kramer scattered 10 singles over 7.0 innings in a complete game loss, allowing only two earned runs although five total runs crossed the plate. He didn't issue a walk, threw 63 of 89 pitches for strikes and struck out a pair of Huskies. He had the Golden Bears in the game trailing by just two runs for most of the contest until SCSU put three unearned runs across in the seventh.

Concordia's offense, third in the country in hitting at .348 on the year entering play, was stifled to just two singles. Further, with a team .441 on base percentage which ranked second in the nation, the Golden Bears only drew one walk in the series opener.

SCSU's Kyle Fischer out-dueled Kramer for the win as he picked up the shutout with nine strikeouts to improve to 4-1.

Dalton extended his streak with an infield single in the seventh inning to short, which was the same spot he was robbed of a hit in his first at bat of the game deep in the hole on a liner that was snared for an out.

Concordia's other hit and lone walk were recorded by senior cleanup hitter Brooks Beilke.

GAME 2: SCSU 11, Concordia 0
Like the first game, the Golden Bears and Huskies played to a tight game through the early and middle innings.

SCSU's Mike Jurgella took Rengel deep in the first inning to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Bears started to rally on offense as well, but couldn't push a run across. In the first inning, sophomore Ryan Poppitz was thrown out at home to end the inning after trying to score from second on sophomore Eric Fasnacht's hit to right field.

Concordia had the tying run in scoring position again in the fourth after a Beilke leadoff single and Fasnacht sacrifice bunt but he was left there.

After SCSU extended its lead to 2-0 in the top of the fifth, the Golden Bears once again had a leadoff single, this time from senior Elliot Powell. He moved to second on a sacrifice by sophomore Alex LaPorte and moved to third on a ground out but was left in scoring position.

Rengel's day ended after 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits (seven singles) with just one walk and two strikeouts. He threw 69 of his 96 pitches for strikes in the solid effort as his season ERA still stands at an impressive 1.12.

The Huskies opened the game up on Concordia's bullpen, though, scoring four in the seventh, three in the eighth and two in the ninth as the Golden Bears were put down 11 straight times from the fifth through eighth innings and only put one runner aboard over the last four innings of play.

SCSU starter Corey Fitzgerald went the distance for the shutout, allowing five singles and two walks with five strikeouts to improve to 3-0.

Although the Huskies had 31 hits in the doubleheader, 29 of them were singles including a large number of seeing eye singles through holes or soft fly balls that fell between the infield and outfield as Kramer and Rengel turned in solid performances.

After the two games, Fasnacht continues to lead the team in hitting at .522 although his 12 game hitting streak ended in game one. Dalton is still at .500 as well 14 games into the season.
