Softball set to take on MSU in NSIC opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. -
Concordia-St. Paul head softball coach Bob Bartel has announced the team's home & NSIC opener has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 26 with the doubleheader beginning at 9:30 a.m. and relocated to the Savage Sports Center.

The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at Carlander Field on Concordia's campus on Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. but field conditions and predicted cold weather caused the relocation.

The Golden Bears traveled to the MWSU Softball Invitational last weekend and came home with a record of 2-4 against the six MIAA opponents. The Golden Bears opened up with a split against Northwest Missouri State and Pittsburg State. NWMSU used a big fifth inning to down CU in game one 11-6 before Stephanie Kappes gave a solid effort in the circle in game two to take a 3-2 win over PSU. Concordia took the first game on Saturday as the bats came alive in an 8-4 win over Washburn. Missouri Southern State snapped the two game CU winning streak in the afternoon game in a 13-7 win over the Golden Bears.CU struggled to get much going offensively on Sunday as they dropped a pair of games 7-2 and 6-2 to Missouri Western State and Central Missouri, respectively.

Freshman Navarae Honoroff had a huge weekend for the Golden Bears as she went 10-17 with four RBI and seven stolen bases on seven attempts. She collected five multi-hit games in six games in the tournament to improve her season slash line to .365/.441/.538 to lead the team in all three categories.

Bekah Roth wasn't far behind as she went 9-23 with seven runs batted in the six games at the invitational. She bumped her season average up to .319 to go along with her team-best 19 RBI, which ranks eighth in the league.

The Mavericks head into the conference season on a six game winning streak as they swept their six games in the MWSU Softball Invitational.

Samantha Holien and Coley Ries took home NSIC Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, this past week with solid performances for MSU.
