Soccer geared up for three games in four days

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia Golden Bears soccer team (3-5-1, 3-3-1 NSIC) is set for a busy weekend as they play three games in four days starting on Thursday night at home against Presentation (S.D.) in a nonconference game. The Golden Bears return to NSIC action as they travel to the University of Mary (2-5-3, 1-4-2 NSIC) on Saturday and Minot State (4-4-2, 3-3-1 NSIC) on Sunday.

Concordia is coming off a weekend split in which they dropped a tough 2-0 match to Northern State and beat MSU Moorhead in a comeback win by a score of 3-2. Taryn MacMillan proved to be the hero in Sunday's game against the Dragons as she scored the game-tying and game-winning goals to give her a team-high four goals on the year. It was also her second multi-goal game of the year. Logan Daulton added the other tally for the Golden Bears as she picked up her first career goal at Concordia.

The Golden Bears meet Presentation, an NAIA school in Aberdeen, S.D., for the second time ever. Concordia rolled to a 9-0 win in the only other meeting between the schools back in 2001. The Saints enter Thursday's match with a 3-8-0 record and are coming off a 6-1 win over Grace University.

Saturday's matchup with the U-Mary is the 13th meeting in the all-time series between the two schools. The Marauders are unbeaten against the Golden Bears with a record of 11-0-1. The only tie came back in 2009 in a 1-1 final in St. Paul. Last season, the Marauders took home a 2-1 win at Sea Foam Stadium. Alahna Anderson scored CU's only goal and Emma Gartner made three saves in net.

Sunday's trip to Minot State could have some serious postseason implications as the two teams are currently tied in eighth place in the NSIC standings. The Golden Bears have gone 0-2 in their two previous meetings all-time against the Beavers. Last year, Minot State erased a 1-0 CU lead to claim a 2-1 win on a rainy afternoon in St. Paul. Erica Landry scored the lone goal for Concordia in the 17th minute as she picked up her second career marker.

Thursday night's game at Sea Foam Stadium is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. as the Golden Bears host Youth Soccer Night.
