#3 Concordia rolls past #12 Wayne State

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University volleyball team (18-3, 11-2 NSIC) picked up their second consecutive sweep over a ranked opponent as they swept #12 Wayne State (17-4, 10-3 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon at the Gangelhoff Center.

Concordia had another efficient night offensively as they hit .373 as a team. The Wildcats were not quite as efficient as they hit .231. The Golden Bears also collected 8.0 total blocks compared to 3.0 for the Wildcats.

Emma Lange was a big part of both as she hit .571 with 13 kills, four blocks and three digs in the win. Riley Hanson also added 13 kills with a .550 hitting percentage  and Anna Schlaak chipped in another double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs while hitting .375.

Taylor Dordan was a consistent contributor in the back row with a match-high 15 digs and Kasey Williams put up 45 assists and seven digs of her own.

Alyssa Frauendorfer was impressive for the Wildcats with a .393 hitting percentage as she matched teammate Katie Hughes with a team-high 13 kills. Leisa McClintock guided the offense for WSC with 36 assists.

The Golden Bears were ready to go from the start of the match as they forced a quick WSC timeout after scoring the first four points. They maintained a comfortable lead that reached as much as seven at 20-13 as they cruised to a 25-18 set win.

Concordia led for the nearly entire second set until the 14-14 mark and again at 17-17 and 18-18. The Golden Bears then turned it up again and went on a 7-1 run to close it out 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The third set was by far the most competitive as WSC held a lead as large as five on several occasions. CU stormed back to take a 24-21 lead and appeared poised to put it away but the Wildcats extended the match for seven match points (including one of their own) but Concordia pulled it out 29-27.

The Golden Bears are back on the road next weekend with matches at #6 Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls.
