ST. PAUL, Minn. – The #20 Wayne State College Wildcats (3-0) knocked off the top ranked Concordia Golden Bears volleyball (2-1) in four sets Saturday morning. This was the first regular season loss on their home court since October 28, 2011 also against Wayne State, snapping the 16 match win streak. WSC has won six times in 20 trips all-time to St. Paul.

The Wildcats dominated play in the first set, holding a lead from start to finish. They outhit the Golden Bears .400 to .143 and were led by six kills from Cori Hobbs.
In the second set the two teams matched each other point for point for much of the play with the Golden Bears tying the score at 21 on a service error by Wayne State. WSC scored four of the next five points to grab a 2-0 set lead.
Concordia answered back in a tight third set in which the Wildcats used a four point run to tie the score at 22 late before the Golden Bears grabbed the last three points to extend the match.
Emily McDonough (Stillwater, Minn. ) led the way in the third with six kills while the CU defense held the Wildcats to just a .163 attack percentage.
The Golden Bears held an early 9-5 lead in the fourth set but were unable to hold off Wayne State and dropped the set 25-23. Cori Hobbs had six more kills in the set and finished the match with 20 kills.
Sophomore setter Leisa McClintock had 53 assists to go with 10 digs and four kills for the Wildcats. Freshman middle Alyssa Frauendorf added 14 kills while hitting .440.
Concordia was led by McDonough's 15 kills, while
Kayla Koenecke (Delano, Minn. ) and
Heather Schiller (Coon Rapids, Minn.) also reached double digits with 12 and 10, respectively. Sophomore setter
Kasey Williams (Cross Plains, Wis.) hit the 40+ set plateau for the third straight match, finishing with 41. Wayne State's stifling defense held the high powered Golden Bear attack to just .191 as a team in the match.
Concordia faces #9 Indianapolis (1-2) tonight at 7:30 p.m. and finishes off the tournament at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow against #21 Wingate (3-0).
